Most often I get three bars inside my home, however reception is improved if I step outside while talking. My phone seldom drops a call but it does seem that I am getting a "network busy" message far than in the past. Overall, very happy with ATT.

Verizon

We live in the Gardiner area, appr a mile east of Wild Birds Unlimited between Port Townsend and Sequim. We used to have great service with Verizon but they did something with their tower, redirected the signal or something and our service is absolutely AWFUL! Almost every call drops and we have a hard time completing any calls. We have contacted Verizon numerous times regaridng this problem and quite frankly they don't seem to give a"hoot". In fact they can't even seem to locate us correctly and when they do a trouble ticket they always get the wrong address. When I call them about it they never call me back. Very Poor customer service, just don't seem too care. There are a lot of people living in the Gardiner-Diamond Point area, why don't they try to improve their service out here? I've been told it will be 2013 before the 4G service will be available to all areas like Gardiner. We think Verizon is just letting their service deteriorate something terrible. We would NEVER recommend Verizon.

Decent coverage but I do get dropped calls at the Clallam Co. / Jefferson County line right at Diamond Pt. and Hwy. 101. I also drop calls going around Morse Creek. Other than that I've had good luck with Verizon. I'm looking at the iPhone and of course would have to switch to AT&T / Cingular... snyone have any other info re the Sequim area???

Just a bad area. Coverage is better in town, on 101, and other select areas.

While up for my fathers funeral relatives all over the country. My husband's blackberry and Nextel were the only ones that got reception at my parents house near Gardiner Beach road. Checked bill, no canadian roaming fees which we worried about.

We were with Sprint and then changed to Cingular thinking we would be able to find a carrier that would provide us with service. We were mistaken as we still do not have any reception. NO Bars do we have at our home. Perhaps it is because we are behind the hill which has an airstrip higher than our home which could be blocking our signal. If we walk up the hill we can obtain a signal but that is not convenient. Would an antenna on top of the house help ?

Reception is sporatic, but usually two bars at best. Most calls last 90 seconds before 'signal lost' shows up and you are disconnected.

The whole area of Dungeness Heights has horrible reception if any. It doesn't matter which carrier. It doesn't matter how good your phone. I drove around the neighborhood and asked several people and they all said it has nearly zero reception. I just bought a brand new Motorola V710 which has a reputation for good reception. I can dial out and get a connection but the person on the other end can't hear me, only static.

Before Sprint offered the roaming options onto Verizon towers in the Northwest area, Sprint's map resembled that of T-Mobile's... very spider-like. Even with the roaming option nowadays with Sprint plans, the cost of it doesn't quite spell out value or improved coverage like Verizon can assure to a certain degree. You'll want to go with Sprint if you are into hip-and-hop handsets (equipment)--although Cingular's GSM's phones are hot, as well as Verizon's CDMA phone selection--, if you plan on using many multimedia features through Spring VISION, or seek guaranteed clarity when you place calls. However, the costly price tag often offsets these features or benefits, and makes you a bit hesitant. With the doubt of good coverage in certain areas, you might be a bit reluctant, especially if you live in the "fringe" areas. Unless you roam onto analog, the reception is "either you have it or you don't"... no "in-between" like you can sometimes get with Verizon. If you decide on Sprint, be sure to give the service an adequate trial run before hastily making a decision. You might notice that in the areas that you'll place calls, Sprint suits you fine. For others, it might be the opposite. On a side-note, although T-Mobile received 2004's best customer service award, my experience has always been pleasant with Sprint.

I've made two other reviews on the cell phone carriers available here in the Port Angeles area. This is my last one. Once again, being from a rural and small town, cell phone reception is average compared to larger cities, or as they say "the top 100" in the market. Thanks to the recenter Cingular and AT&T merger, Cingular's GSM coverage has improved much in this area. About two years ago, they started to implement their own coverage here, placing towers in somewhat strategic locations, such as Carrie Blake Park and along the main highway to Port Angeles. However, with the addition of AT&T, the other weak areas improved. Similar to T-Mobile, GSM handsets are strictly digital, so you cannot migrate to the AMPS (analog) network. Due to the frequency limitations of GSM (the higher the number (like 1900MHz) the better the sound quality and speed of transmission, but the poorer the range of coverage and the penetration of buildings), once you leave the main highways and areas supported by the towers, you lose coverage--that's why T-Mobile's network is clear, but very narrow as indicated by its map. Fortunately, Cingular also utilizes 850MHz network here, which expands the coverage provided by each tower, as well as the penetration of buildings, etc. Consequently, Cingular can reach those places that T-Mobile cannot. Also, AT&T placed towers by Lake Crescent, and then Cingular recently placed towers in Forks and Kalaloch. So, in conclusion, if you're going to live in the Sequim, Gardiner, or Port Angeles areas, you will probably want to stay with Cingular or Verizon. As I tell my customers, your reception needs depend on where you use your phone and where you also plan on using it.
