Generally no problem making or receiving calls at home even with 2-3 bars. Reception is generally better than my brief stint with Einstein. Verizon was less reliable in this neighborhood a few years ago but that may have changed.

I have had US Cellular for years and by and far, it has the best quality of all my friends who have different carriers. They're always complaining about dropped calls and not getting their calls when they're inside. I even switched to Verizon for a couple months back in 2005... it was the most HORRIBLE 2 months of my life. I couldn't get reception anywhere and if I was in a building, I could kiss the call good-bye. US Cellular has the best reception in this area.

Alltel reception has been great all over Wisconsin. Have never had issues with dropped calls or lack of reception. Alltel does not have its own towers here in Madison, but roaming agreements work well. I use the Mobile Web service also. It works fine, though EVDO coverage is not yet availible here through Alltel.

Verizon gets no reception at all along the length of Monroe Street. When I lived on Monroe, I could only talk to people by hanging off the edge of my third floor balcony and screaming into the phone. Now, in the Vilas area by the zoo, my service is slightly better, but I still get terrible sound quality and drop every third call.

In most places in Madison, I get good reception everywhere. But outside my home near Raymond and Verona, I get only one bar, and sometimes dropped calls. Inside the house, we're lucky to get one bar, and we have many dropped calls. We complained to Verizon, and they said our number of dropped calls was normal, and they do not cover inside buildings. They said the signal strength was adequate outside our home. And gave me a $50 credit. I recently purchased and installed a Wi-Ex Cell Phone Signal Extender to try to enhance the strength of the signal indoors (who wants to stand outside in the winter to use the phone?!). As long as we stand a foot or two away from the enhancer, the signal strength is five bars, but that's only if the antenna in the attic can get a signal. We still get dropped calls. The closest tower is US Cellular, which is what we get on roaming.

Reception is very poor (1 bar) all around the Atwood Ave area. I live towards the lake from Atwood and my phone doesn't receive anything inside the house. Disappointing.

I have T-Mobile, but I roam 24 / 7 on Cingular, IWS, Einstein PCS, etc. I can always talk easily in town, though Cingular seems to like to drop my calls. I keep T-Mobile because of the great price of the plan and their roaming agreements making it possible to use them here in Madison, where there are no T-Mobile towers. I pay about $51 / mo for 1000 minutes, free n+w, 400 text messages, and I can use just about any GSM roaming partner.

Most wonderful service provider I have ever had. Previously I had Einstein Wireless (a complete joke) and Cingular (great phones, poor service). I will never switch ever again. It works in the boondocks of western WI like muscoda and richland center and black river falls. Cingular didnt work anywhere but the highways to those places and Einstein didnt work outside of Madison PERIOD. The most reliable service I would have to say. AND CHEAPER TOO!
