If you have a smartphone with 3G or 4G speeds, it will do you NO Good here in Stevens Point because they do not have that yet. I found this out too late.

When signing up with US Cellular in Nov. 2010 had no issues and service was usually 2-3 bars. Since March our service has just gotten worse, dropped calls all the time, no service in the house unless you stand very still by a north window. Pretty much have to go out onto the deck to get any bars at all. Not sure who to go to anymore as other companies we have tried are worthless in this area as well.

AT&T has great reception in the city, way better than Sprint ever did (spent 4 years with them). But when it comes to this area, my reception sucks. If you're looking for good reception out on Torun road, near Jordan park, look else where. Either that, or get used to having your phone on a window sill all the time.

I took the short ride just past Waupaca and turned south on 49 finished my phone set-up. I now get 4-5 bars, even inside and I have 3g service. Well worth the little extra effort. Now I will have great service everywhere. I rule the air with Verizon.

I find it amazing that with 2 bars I get great reception on my phone. It is basically contraban according to Element Mobile. I started on US Cellular on a group plan and service was great. Then moved on to AT&T, worst service int the world, at least I thought Nest step Alltel, completely happy waiting for the merge with Verizon, jokes on me in comes Element. Dead tie with AT&T. Both lack service and customer service. Don't get me wrong AT&T internet is great, cellular is the worst with Element. I tried Sprint, great prices on service but I had 0 bars in my home so every call incoming or outgoing dropped. The 3g was good but I am an at home student and still use my cell phone as a phone. I had to go a slight round about way but have Verizon in my area code, prefix is different no biggie and my cell is clear and works great on 2 bars, better than Element on 4 or 5. I actually get my e-mails and multi media messages on a Smart phone, I have the Motorola Droid 2 Global. I do not care that I have to make a quick ride to just outside of Waupaca to start my data service.

Alltel is now Element Mobile. It is BY FAR the worst service, customer service and cell company I have ever dealt with! If this was maybe my first or second cell, I couldn't back this up, but I have had a mobile phone since 1992 and actually had a GTE radio phone before that! Stay AWAY from Element Mobile!

I had U.S. Cellular for many years and also tried AT&T because I liked the iPhone. Within a month I found AT&T was just not the way to go living in Central WI. Went back to U.S. Cellular before trying Alltel. So far I've found I have much better reception in places where I didn't with U.S. Cellular. Also found the phone plans to be much more reasonable as well as more options with Alltel. The people at the 29 Park Ridge Dr.location are not only knowledgeable, but also very helpful when dealing with any of the issues I've had and seem willing to go that extra mile to help me out. Two very enthusiastic thumbs up!

Reception is okay (2-4 bars) outdoors, but miserable in my apartment complex (0-2 bars). Calls are frequently dropped and sound (both incoming and outgoing) is frequently lost or distorted. I have yet to find a carrier that provides adequate reception at this location.

I can get some reception when I go outside, but I can not use my phone inside any buildings.

When I lived in the dorms, reception was OK, sometimes I had to stand near the window to get the best reception but that wasn't an issue. Seems to come in great in the restaurants / businesses along Division. University buildings vary, but usually decent too. However, reception in Village Apartments right next to campus is horrible. 2 bars if I'm lucky, but usually 0 or 1. People will try to call me but it won't even ring, or it will keep dropping calls. Very frustrating when trying to communicate with loved ones!

Most of the time I have 4 out of 5 bars.

I have T-Mobile and came up to Steven's Point for a weekend. I was getting an AT&T signal (t-mobile roaming coverage) so there does not appear to be any actual T-Mobile signal or non-roaming coverage available anywhere in Steven's Point. The AT&T signal worked alright at the University and on the main Business strip (Business 51 / Division st). However, there was Virtually no signal at the apartment complexes I was spending the weekend looking at including those in southern Plover, on Doolittle Dr.in Steven's Point, or on Medil Pond in Whiting. Based on this, I would say AT&T coverage (and consequently T-Mobile coverage) are quite poor in this area.

I have never had any problems talking in any of the stores here, including WalMart and Lowes. I have been very happy with my service with Alltel and would reccomend it to anyone.

Most of the time I will have 3 - 4 bars of signal.

Fluctuates between 4 and 5 bars. Never had any problems making a call.

Whiting business park area has weak reception, don't expect your CellOne to work inside houses, or wal-mart, best buy etc. in that area. It will flux between no signal and one bar.

overall, if you travel around the state of Wisconsin Alltel has the best most consistant service.

I've had full reception and crystal clear calling all over Stevens Point and even inside buildings. Good customer service, cheap minutes, and a good phone selection makes them a good carrier in the 54481 area.

Horrible company. 0 bars in most places. When I have 5 bars, all I get is network busy. Over 20 tries to call out at night. Bad Cust. Service too. They say they did something, a week later there's no record of anything. Bad, Bad, Bad, Bad experiences all around with AT&T and Cingular.

Reception has been very good. Pleased with the service. I am also using the Data Cable connection kit to hook my laptop to the web. Works great. Have used it camping from New York to Wisconsin with great results.
