For Cellular One customers, once you go through the big intersection at the north end of town, you pretty much lose reception. Folks with US Cellular do not seem to have this problem. Have not been able to figure out why, but some hypothosize the hill blocks reception to the tower (not sure where this tower is located).

First trip to Elkins since July and Cingular GSM is there now. Seems to work fine and seems to have pretty good coverage too.

Cingular's eastern region includes all customers who's accounts reside in KY, WV, VA, PA, MD, NC, SC, TN, DC. So if you have a account address in any of these states your Cingular GSM phone will work in the Elkins service region. Mine did as of Fri Aug 05 and Sat Aug 06. I live in Charlottesville VA and I travel through this area often. My phone worked for voice, no gprs service as of yet. So you can go ahead and sign up for service because it will work. -H.

Thank you for the information on Elkins. I am looking to purchase a Cingular plan, but I tried a month ago and when I got the phones, there was no service. I do have a question though, what do you mean by "customers from the eastern region?" Why does Elkins not have coverage for all Cingular customers, and if I order a new nationwide plan for elkins, will it work for me or do I have to wait till the end of the year. I really just want to make sure that it is going to work this time when I order the plan. Last time I ordered Cingular told me for sure that it would work in Elkins, and it didn't, and that is why I got a free month from them and no longer have service.

Does anyone know if Cingular is working in Elkins yet?
