I recently took a month long trip through Alaska. The only location I received coverage was in Anchorage / Palmer. Fairbanks, Tok, Homer, Soldotna, and all places in between were dead. Not what I expected from a nationwide provider of this size.
Sprint has no towers in Alaska. You are going to be roaming and its tough to find a stable signal. Sometime I will have 5 bars, then a second later none. The service is pretty much slim and none in anchorage.

Cell One sucks. We live 2.3 and 2.8 mile between towers and still no service here. I could go on and on... .instead, I just got out of my contract.
Every time I cross Tudor / Lake Otis, no matter what direction, my calls are dropped. Also, if you go under the Tudor overpass on the New Seward, reception is so poor that it sounds like the person is underwater. But, I have a great plan with Cellular One, so I'm hesitant to switch.
Was told Cingular had very little coverage but I would be able to place calls now Im stuck with a phone that I never get a signal. I need a new cell company.

Sometimes you can talk somtimes you can't. If it was free it might be an ok deal. I will be glad when my contract is up! Do yourself a favor don't get started with Cellular One. Is the 1 n their name on a scale of 10? Or is it signal strength?
I travel a lot when I am out of Bethel, and was looking for a cheap way to communicate with family. Virgin Mobile said they had coverage in Anchorage, and other larger towns in Alaska. Lie. No signal at the airport, or at the Tudor-Muldoon curve (or anywhere in between), or on the way to the city of Kenai. Even though it is cheap, it is not worth it if you are not in the lower 48. I went with ACS, and am much happier.

Had great reception the first month. Then, NOTHING in the area. Do these co.s rent tower space at different strengths ? After 30 day lemon law, bump you down to lower transmission ? I would imagine that their profit margin would go up. I am NOT happy at all with cell one.
