Alcoa Rd. / Fernwood intersection, Benton, AR 72015 |

In Benton, Arkansas, just off Alcoa Rd.near the intersection with Fernwood, there is a TMobile dead zone. Friends live on Doris Drive. You can stand outside on the driveway and get no TMobile reception at all. Inside their house, no bars of service. The closer that you get to Military Rd. the better it gets. Basically in Benton, you have decent TMobile service along the Interstate highway. Get away from there and the service gets progressively worse.

I live outside the city limits on the south end of Camden near Pace City. You can't use any of my 3 phones anywhere, but on major highways anymore. Even then I drop calls and search for service periodically. I have different models of phones, some Alltel, some Verizon (the GREAT MERGE). I also have a data card that stinks. Even when I go smack into the middle of town now, coverage on all 4 devices is 1-2 bars at best with lots of dropped calls and several instances of "no service". Since the merger, signal strength has fallen off like nobody's business and there is no good alternative. They tried to claim it was because some of my devices were still Alltel. My fiance has all Verizon devices and he has crap for service, too. Then they said I needed to go ahead and buy all new devices to change over to "Verizon" plans. (They won't let you change plans unless you have all Verizon devices, but who'd want to.) They said the poor signal strength had everything to do with my having an Alltel plan. Incidently, this plan is cheaper and offers much more than anything Verizon can come up with. Basically, they want to hook you for 2 more years with about a $1000 per month bill for a couple of hunks of useless metal. (By-the-way, my fiance has a Verizon plan and his service is not any better.) Which brings me to the data card. It used to be awesome when Alltel was still around. Now it may take me an hour to connect and when I do it will disconnect who knows how many times. It takes forever to load something... when it feels like it. I can't say that it's just due to my being out in the sticks because my fiance lives in the middle of town. His data card has been doing the same thing for 2 months. He's only had it for 3. I would not suggest the data card at all since its $60 per month for only 5G of usage. Mine is the same price, but I have unlimited usage on the old Alltel plan. It's way too much for what it is. You might as well have dial-up. If you're going to pay that price, go get some Wild Blue or something. As for the phones, you won't get any better than Verizon, but that's not saying much. I'm sick of being stuck with all these huge bills and useless phones. I'm dropping Verizon all together this month. A lot of people have been switching to StraighTalk out here and doing fine. I hear it's unlimited everything for $45 per month and it's pay as you go. With no contract, I'll try it for a month.

I have no service with Sprint. Every time I place a call it says "Welcome to Verizon Wireless, you call can not be completed as dialed. Please hang up and try again." I hate Sprint. My family has Verizon and love it. I will be looking into them.

Any place East of Thayer, MO there is no reception until you get to popular bluff. Wirth, AR is in a dead zone. I've had my phone since 2004 and can't use it when I'm at home. There are alot of others in the same situation as me. Wish they would put a tower closer, or something.
