Alltell bought First Celluar. If you have a gsm your screwed! Customer service sucks.(very rude) I have talked to customer service and they admit if you have a gsm phone you have to start all over with a new contract to get better service. The wont let you switch back to digital using a old phone. Has to be a new alltell phone. I have honored my part of the contract I wish they would honor theirs! I have spoken to numerous customers that feel the same way I do!!

Almost NO service in my house... East window upstairs will provide enough signal to get voice mails, change settings... Calling really iffy. Verizon (previous carrier) just as bad. I'm in a dead zone... 1 / 2 block in any direction is great signal!
i am thinking of taking the hit for exiting out of my contract early. terrible reception. from 2 bars to 0 by the time I press talk. good news is that I am able to live a cell phone free life.

AT&T has NO SIGNAL, 2000 new students, their parents and friends can't get cellphone signals from AT&T. They will switch to other carrier if signal is NOT improved around the Northwestern University.
I regularly have to walk six blocks away from my apartment to use my phone. Even when I walk away form my own apartment: Dropped calls, bad reception, late voicemails, late text messages. Awful. Unbelievable. I'm on the phone with 611 right now to see what they have to say about the technical support case that's been open for 2 months.
Ridiculously poor to no coverage. When initiating a call, I get a "call failed" message over 50% of the time. Dropped calls happen multiple times a day. In Chicago, I've used Sprint, T-Mobile and US Cellular but had to switch to AT&T for work. ALL other providers were FAR superior to AT&T.
