While the publicly available coverage map says there is coverage, a company maintained unpublished map admits no coverage. My personal experience is that there is a dead zone more than a mile from the road.

No reception in the Accokeek area near Farmington Road. No reception getting on to 295. Very poor reception in my home (Waldorf). I would not recommend AT&T (Cingular)
No reception or the call is dropped whenever I enter the Accockeek area. No reception in my house in Waldolf unless I'm close to a window. None at all in the basement. I would NOT recommend AT&T(Cingular).
Nextel is terrible. I get dropped calls all the time in my house and sometimes you go from having all bars to none. What's up with that? I would not recommend Nextel to anyone! Stay away! Verizon wireless works great. It was funny because me and my mom were in the car... ..she didn't have service... .i did! LOL!
The signal is nonexistant in many places even outside, in the clear. The phone ocassionaly beeps when it gets a signal for a short peroid. I turn it off to get rid of the beeps.
The salesperson at the AT&T store in Waldorf told me she wouldn't even sell me an AT&T GSM plan once she learned I live in Bryans Road, because the service is so poor here that everyone returns their phones and cancels the service...
with this phone and with Cingular as a carrier, I get no reception in my house. It will work very little in the neighborhood though. A lot of dropped calls, even up in waldorf, clinton, camp springs, etc. Should be no excuse for dropped calls in major urban areas and on major routes around dc. Very,Very frustating!
