My reception was fine for over 5 years. About 2 months ago I start receiving complaints from family that my phone was "turned off", etc. when in fact the phone was on and showed minimal signal strength. Now from 12 noon to about 8 pm I cannot receive any calls but can make some occasionally. Cingular told me it was my old analog phone so I transferred my number to a new Samsung SGH-X427 from Cingular. I tried to activate it by phone with customer service and it wouldn't work. I had to drive into Port Huron and have the store activate it. Great reception near Lake Huron and the St. Clair River. As I drove to my home 15 miles SW of Port Huron, the reception declined to zero!
Now I do not even have a phone that works part time! If I am lucky I can receive a call if I am standing in the center of my front lawn. Tomorrow I am sending the phone back and reactivating my old analog phone! I really believe this is a recently engineered "dead zone"! No cell phone service can work fine in an area for several years and then drop off to nothing!
I have never had luck with cell phone reception in the NE Ann Arbor / Ypsilanti area. First I had issues with Verizon, now I'm having trouble with T-Mobile. I don't know what the deal is with this area. Everyone I know says they have trouble in this area... calls don't ring through, calls are dropped, all the normal BS.
My entire family is on ATT Wireless, and not one of our phones will recieve at our cottage up north. Persons with Cingular cannot recieve either. It is a rural area, with many wooded areas. Do not rely on a cell if you travel to this area frequently.
I have had Cingular for a long time. I have kept them because of good rates in the past. Whenever I am in Marine City at the Riviera Restaurant, I cannot make any calls. I have been told that it is because I am next to the St. Clair River, but several other people have recieved calls and been able to make calls all the time. I am going to switch to a different carrier. I am not sure who, but I am thinking about Sprint or Verizon.
Dropped calls, if I can connect AT ALL. Roughly 90% drop rate. Cancelled the service and incurred the $250 early termination fee. Sure beats paying these scum suckers for a phone that I can't use.
