I need to stand at the edge of my backyard or in the street in front of my house to get reception. Even then it is poor.

I have been very disappointed with my reception for my trips to Park Rapids. I'm not sure if it's my phone or what? Usually I get decent service but lately I don't much reception at all. I don't get service in buildings much anymore. The main thing that irritates me is that I have no service on my trips to Park Rapids except when I am in Park Rapids.

County Rd.2 / Hwy. 44 intersection, Brimson, MN 55602 Sat Feb 24, 2007

There is no reception on County Hwy. 2 starting 7 miles north of Two Harbors. You can get 1 or 2 bars on the highway, but as soon as you turn off the road, there is no reception. This lack of reception continues all the way into Brimson, Fairbanks, and Toimi. This large dead zone has been dubbed 'The Brimson Triangle.' Once you get off highway 61 in Two Harbors or Duluth, the general rule is that if you can't see Lake Superior, you probably can't use your phone. Why is it the tourists in the Boundary Waters have cell service, but the tax paying residents of large portions of Northern Minnesota do not?

Hgy 11 Causeway Bridge East of Fort Francis, Ont., International Falls, MN 56649 Sun Feb 04, 2007

Cingular service on the North Arm of Rainy Lake is spooky as a French woman. I believe the Cingular service is provided by the tower at the 2nd Bridge on the south side of Sand Bay. At the 5 mile dock near the Causeway the signal is zero, Nada, kaput. If I drive west 2 miles toward Fort Frances the signal dramatically improves. If I boat north from the 5 mile dock the signal is very poor, non-existant 1 / 2 mile north. Going further north, there are places where some signal can be detected. At my cabin, 20 miles north of the tower, I have a 16db Yagi 90 feet above the lake which will bring in Cingular's GSM signal at 2 bars, enough for reasonably reliable communications.

T-mo contracts with other providers (mainly Cellular One) for roaming in Duluth and outlying areas. GPRS data on T-Mobile devices has been completely absent in these areas for months. EDGE is working in some areas. Avoid GPRS-only phones and get EDGE-equipped GSM phones if you want data functions to work around Duluth, Fargo and Grand Forks.
