I recently moved here. I have had Verizon service for years. Mostly it has been good. We had some service when I first got here then everything quit. I went to a local Verizon store to complain. There answer was to press *228 to reprogram my phone. That did nothing. I called 611 and complained again and they finally said they would check into the problem. They said they would get back to me and gave me a reference number. They did not get back to me I had to call them. When I did they finally admitted there was a known problem in this area. Verizon has been working on it for some time now. I was paying $ 87.00 per month for no service. They finally let me out of my contract so I could get a service that works. The strange part is we are probably only 200 yards from a cell phone tower.

There is no or extremely spotty reception along the entire Galisteo Creek corridor. This goes from Conchas dam at the intersection of the Rio Grande and Galisteo Creek, thru Cerrillos and El Dorado and on to Pecos. I've been a Verizon customer for many years but I'm being forced to swith to Alltel because they appear to have my area (Santa Fe) ringed with towers and Verizon apears to have one down by Alberque some where.

We really got had with this phone deal. The phone will say it has service but if you can get a call to go out, the battery will be flat in minutes. You can't leave the phone on for any length of time either. It will be flat within an hour or two.
If I turn slowly from a North facing direction to a South facing direction I may get one bar. But only if I'm standing on one leg and praying profusely to God! In other words it sucks big time! I've conferred with Verizon Wireless several times on this issue. Their reply is some time in the far distance future will their recently purchased Alltel tower be realigned, but even then there is no guarantee I will receive better reception. My only resolution to this issue is to purchase an expensive cellular signal booster with antenna!
I'm in roaming here! And Sprint charges for roaming. Coverage in general has been good with Sprint for past 5 years. Considering changing companies because on a recent trip to southeastern oklahoma and arkansas I was always in roaming. Friends with alltell had coverage.
