I get about two bars at the northwest corner of A (blue) corridor, and the signal drops to one bar as I walk east through A corridor. This may be because I'm getting close to the Baker / Olin parking lot. No reception in B (yellow), C (brown), D (orange) or E (green) corridors. In the hallway leading to the Baker-North Campus exit, I get three bars standing next to one of the windows below the Baker / Olin parking lot. I once did a phone interview in one of the Baker classrooms looking out to Clark Plaza. Three or four bars. I can get three or four bars at some places in the LASSP stockroom. Perhaps I'm closer to Clark Plaza. Of course this will change when they construct the new building between Baker and Rockefeller.

Forget Sprint in Northern Rockland. Palisades Pkwy. reception from Exit 16 to exit 10 much better than Cingular however.

I was promised that all of Long Island was covered when I signed a one year contract in April. Service is unbelievably poor throughout the East End of Long Island. While most of Rt 27 is covered (with dead spots), once you leave the main road signal drops to zero. I saw in the local paper that plans were approved last year for a major increase in towers, but so far there is no sign of any change. I will try Cingular when my contract is up, and maybe switch back to Verizon which does have OK coverage in the area, if Cingular is also not there yet. Sprint promised coverage in 1998- and still has nothing- so I have learned not to trust promises.

Most days I get poor or no reception using this GSM phone. If I lean against the window, I sometimes get 1-2 bars. This is somewhat uncomfortable for making / receiving calls.

Cingular has the best reception in this area, but Right where I live is a dead spot. I have recently changed phones to a Samsung SGH-X427 and its even worse. But the Nokia was a TDMA and GSM phone whereas the Samsung is only GSM. That is the difference. If you can, get Cingular service, a Motorola phone, and make sure it can do both TDMA and GSM.

There is about a 20 mile dead zone. Wake up ATT. There many nice hill tops for towers.
