Parts of East Quogue are a dead spot for Nextel. No reception going East until close to Hampton Bays

I've had excellent reception with Verizon Wireless everywhere I have been along the Eastern Coast. Unfortunately it seems that if you happen to live on water facing the Long Island Sound, especially in the Belle Terre / Port Jefferson area, there is a dead spot. Everyone with Verizon service has had the same results when visiting: their cell phone indicates all bars for service and no roaming. However, no one can connect for service, their cell phone battery dies within 2 hours and heats up. Most likely from the phone trying to connect to a signal. With no bars I would expect that, but everyone gets full bars. By the way, my friends with Sprint have the same trouble as well while over. Very aggravating since every guest with Cingular and T-Mobile can connect without a problem (even in the middle of Pirate's Cove out in Belle Terre). After going 100 yards south, Verizon service is good again.

Just purchased a family plan and four phones from Cingular based on their claim of the best coverage in the area. My neighborhood is in a dead zone. When I called the dealer who sold me the phone he checked his detailed map and confirmed indeed I live in a dead zone. Wish he checked that before I signed up. They said I could cancel without penalty. Now I'm searching for a plan where my kids can actually reach me at home in an emergency. Sprint / Nextel seems worth checking based on comments I've read here.

Zero reception from T-Mobile on Columbia Heights (next to the Promenade). Some customer support reps claim tower issues and that "it's being worked on" but I wouldn't trust that...

Inside buildings I get spotty to no reception. Outside my office I only get two bars and the cell tower is no more than 200 yards from the parking lot! I am not amused!

Sometimes you can get a signal if you park roadside just past the turnoff to walton coming into Franklin, otherwise basically nada from East Sidney Dam all the way to Delhi. This is a 20-mile long dead zone with thousands of cellphone users living in it and / or commuting to work through it. This has been the case for years in this part of Delaware County (NY state).

No one on my block can get a decent cell signal at all. We live right by the SI Railroad and it gets better when I go out infront of my house away from the rails but otherwise I can't get anything. Even wireless networks I try to hop on are skiddish. Will it ever change?
