I recently spent 6 days on Ocracoke Island and never got any reception. This has happened on previous visits. I am about to change and am planning to go with Verizon. I am tired of going out of town and not being able to use my phone anywhere. Used to have Sun Com and had no problems. Now with Cingular / AT&T, I get nothing everywhere I go. Very disappointed.

I have at most one bar and this is constantly changing from searching for service to one bar. Even when I go into Brevard the most it ever was was 2 bars. Verizon is decent in Asheville though I have never tested an AT&T phone. Sprint sucks everywhere basically

Occasionally one bar, usually none. Switched from Cingular because they had even worse coverage and terrible customer service, but VZW has only marginally better coverage (and locks down their phones). If I were to do it again, I would go with Alltel.

Was standing at the Veriozon store in the mall and had absolutly no reception and they couldnt tell me why! Might be a good company on the west coast but sucks here on the east coast. Also, reception is at best 1, maybe 2 bars and thats on a shiny day with no clouds out, on base.

Little to no reception any time of day - thought it was my house, but even walking around the block there is no signal. All my friends with Verizon have the same problem - others with other carriers don't (at least not here :). Bought the phone with the best signal reception at the time - no help.

850 Town Mountain / Bartram's Walk Subdivision intersection, Asheville, NC 28804 |

There is no GSM (AT&T) reception in almost all of the new Bartram's Walk subdivision between Town Mountain Rd.and Wolf Cove Rd.in Beaverdam Valley. I highly recommend that all contractors and new home owners in this subdivision use Verizon. Verizon has an antenna on a tower off Elk Mountain Scenic Highway. This tower provides great coverage in Beaverdam Valley. Even though AT&T has pretty good coverage throughout Asheville, this is one growing area where there is a huge dead spot.

You have to get close to an east-facing outer wall of our house to get 1 bar, otherwise no reception in the house. Cingular never bothered to tell us we had poor reception in our area before we signed their contract.

Once I pull into my development off High Rock Rd. I get no reception. Frustrating to not be able to use the cell phone I pay for at my own house!

Just cancelled Cingular contract after having a contract for 7 years. When AT&T went to 10 digit dialing well over a year ago, I lost the signal entirely at my home. Previously had no problems with a signal unless it was storming. Called Cingular only to find that I had never been on a Cingular tower and that Cingular had "lost" their reciprocal agreement with SunCom, the tower that my phone was previously using. Cingular was "very sorry" but I was out of a signal with 1.5 yrs left on a 2 yr contract (that ended today!) Cingular / AT&T coverage is very spotty or non-existent traveling along Jones Ferry Rd, Old Greensboro Hwy, and many of the other "country" roads in western Orange and northern Chatham counties. SunCom claims that I'll have 2-3 bars outside and at least 1-2 bars inside my home. I'll have 15 days to cancel the contract if I have signal issues. Alltel, Sprint, and Verizon do not get a signal in my area. SunCom gets my business, at least for 15 days :+}
