Nextel is completely useless here. I usually get great service anywhere in the triangle, other than my home. Rarely do I have any service here. Any inbound calls I have to call them back on my land line. But I don't know any mobile provider that covers this area with good service.

I can't make one phone call in that area that goes through. I am not sure if it's the phoe, the towers or both. Should I change carriers?

no service on back half of Plank Rd - no service on Hobson Rd until to reach Hwy. 401. Verizon states that you must be within 5 miles of a tower for good service - the coverage map they provided states different.

No signal, cannot dial out, cannot receive calls. Verizon tech support can only troubleshoot dropped calls, nothing they can do about not being able to get any signal. When it roams to US Cellular or Alltel it works great, when the phone reads Verizon Wireless I can count on it not working.

As you are heading into South Carolina, the call will drop completely. Turn around if you want signal again!

Montford Cove Rd. / Bills Creek Rd. intersection, Marion, NC 28752 Fri Jan 12, 2007

Ilive in White House Community between Marion and Rutherfordton, below Sugarhill and north east of Lake Lure and north west of Rutherfordton we can't get out on Cingular from Sugar Hill School down to Bills Creek almost to Fairfield Mountains. Just in one or two spots. There is a cell phone tower on Pinacle mountain directly to the east of my house. I am almost level with the tower. I would like to know whose tower it is and if I can get good service with that carrier. Verizon is better but nobody gets great service. I would like to know which is the best and if all these developements going up in McDowell county will help us to get better coverage. It hurts to pay for something you can only use when you are not at home and I mean almost in town. Don't we country folk count. We are the ones needing cell service most because we are so isolated.

Pisgah Hwy, Near Hominy Valley Fire Department, Candler, NC 28715 Tue Dec 19, 2006

I have used several cell phone carriers (US Cellular, Sprint / Nextel and Verizon) About 200 yards before my house it drops out and about 200 yards after my house it picks up again on to drop out when you get to the incline of the mountain. Sometimes if I cross the street I can get enough signal to dial out but no where in my yard or house has any of these worked even though I can see the cell phone tower from my house. Very frustrating.

Palm Treo 650
Town Mountain Rd. / Above Beaverdam Valley intersection, Asheville, NC 28804 Fri Dec 15, 2006

There is no Cingular reception from Beaverdam Valley (near Spooks Branch) all the way up the mountain to Town Mountain Rd. This is the area of a new proposed residential development (Bartram's Walk). For anyone planning to work or live in this area, you will need to use Verizon. They have a tower on Elk Mountain Scenic Hwy. that provides a strong signal in this whole area.
