No reception at all on most of Bane Road; 1-2 bars as you approach Brookhollow Road, then improves rapidly as you travel S or W on Brookhollow. Largely a function of terrain; low-lying land near the Eno River struggles with reception all through this general vicinity.
I find it hard to believe that Nextel ranks 1st or 2nd in almost ALL zipcodes I tried. I speak from personal experience- Nextel does NOT have reception in Iron Station NC off HWY 73. Since there are ads for Sprint all over this site I can assume that the site is provided by Sprint which explains how Nextel (now owned by Sprint) ranks at the top. Unless you MUST have the 2-way radio go with another provider. I've had Nextel since 2003 and the service has went from bad to worse with the Sprint merger.

No reception here. I have had Alltel and Sprint in the past and it worked, but no reception at all on Ocracoke.

WORST **** EVER. NEVER GET CRICKET. this is a temporary phone and the most I ever get is 2 bars! 2! I dont get ANY signal at school, in walmarts, or in south park. this is the worst crap ever. And when you do have signals you drop calls like crazy.

I pay $80 / mo for my plan and my phone does not work for the few miles around my house. I will sometimes see a bar or two, but it isn't enough for more than a few seconds of phone conversation. I can get out a text message here and there with repeated resend attempts, but sometimes they take hours to come through. I have limited coverage all over Chatham / Orange County except for the few clusters of "civilization" in downtown Carrboro, Chapel Hill, and Pittsboro. I strongly do-not-recommend AT&T unless you live and stay *in* town. I've complained and they've basically said "too bad." Terrible customer service.
For ATT / Cingular, you can go to the north end of the island next to the ferry dock to Cape Hatteras. There you can get reception with ATT. Otherwise you're plum out of luck.
