T-Mobile looses reception on a pay-as-you-go plan as soon as you leave a large Metro area like Dallas. I would not suggest anyone getting T-Mobile service. The only thing I love is the Samsung phone. The phone itself is easy to use and is well made.

The ONLY place I have no Nextel signal at all (not even DirectConnect, even though DC has worked elsewhere when it says NO SIGNAL) is way back in the Honeycomb - Sandy Creek Area. If you head west on Nameless (2243) from 183, once you start down the hill at the Honeycomb streets, you lose it till you get around the hill toward Cherry Harlem--err--HOLLOW :-), or if you turn and go up Round Mountain Rd past the Sandy Creek Meth labs, its spotty coverage till you hit fresh air again (way past the Vol Fire Station), almost to the Liberty Hill area. Other than that, I have yet to lose a call anywhere else in the Leander / Cedar Park / Round Rock / G-town / N Austin area. Even a trip to Elgin earlier this week (183S to 290E) it didnt drop (it beeps when it re-finds the lost network).

Cingular is odd. Regularly when sitting at this light my reception will go from 3 bars to 0. The phone will then switch to Roam at 2 bars. Then a few seconds later the signal switches back to Cingular at 3 bars. This all while sitting still at the stop light waiting for it to turn green. ie. Not Moving! I've dropped dozens of calls right at this spot.

Actually this happens while just sitting on my sofa. I'm not even driving in a car. At random times decent signal will suddenly drop and the phone goes to Roam. Then a few seconds later it goes back to Cingular.

I-30 To Hooks and Surrounding Area / I-30, SH-82 intersection, Hooks, TX 75561 |
Thu Mar 30, 2006 |
If you walk outside about 30 feet from the house and stand right outside the workshop you may get a good connection for a little while or if you stand in the bedroom by the door facing west, you may get an in and out signal. Complained to customer service for a year and they said I had service. I have told everyone and anyone that would listen whatever you do don't get t-mobile. Reported this within the first 30 days of service and was told that since we had the service the contract couldn't be cancelled. A year is finally here and I wouldn't recommend T-Mobile to my enemy. Most of the time in this area you will get 1 bar and forget ever checking your messages. I could only get mine on visits to Dallas.

If you ever in Laredo, TX do not use a Cingular phone next to the border or at the college. The Mexican cell antennas take over the phone and if you answer a call it is an outragous amount to pay. I have Cingular and for answering a phone call I get charged $5 dollars a minute. So watch out. I am looking forward to changing with Verizon, I have heard good things about them.

Manchaca / Seminary Ridge / Manassas intersection, Austin, TX 78745 |
Fri Mar 10, 2006 |
There is a major dead zone located around Manchaca / Shilo and Seminary Ridge / Manassas. Cingular refuses to believe this. Funny thing is, is that the reception was OK the first 30 days we had the phones -then after the cancellation period - no bars. We now have over 9000 roll over minutes, but if we change our plan, we loose all of the minutes. Minutes we've paid for and can't use. Only 6 more months and after reading all these comments, I think we'll go with Verizon.
