Randolph Ave. - Two Blocks From Beach Front, Cape Charles, VA 23310 |

There is only one place in Cape Charles that we can get fairly constant reception, and that is in the Food Lion parking lot. We have lost our land line phone on several occasions due to weather problems, and we had someone in the house who has a chronic lung problem. We were quite anxious about how we would reach 911. I cannot use my phone almost anywhere in my neighborhood, especially in my house. Have complained to Alltel but was given "Oh well" They tell me I'm right in the middle of 3 towers so I should get good reception. Wrong. I have tried several ways of trying to fix this with Alltel but they will not budge. Basicly they told me to either buy a new phone at the full price, I'm 7 months away from finishing a 2 year contract, or pay the $400 dollars to get out of the contract, I have 2 phone lines, and go to another company. I have been an Alltel customer for about 12 years now and this is what I get. Thanks Alltel!

My Samsung on Verizon is useless on the mountain. It is constantly changing service areas but never gets a signal. I can use it at the parking area near 601 and Rt 7 but have to stay in the lot. I had a contractor with T-Mobile who uses his phone all over the mountain. Not sure what model phone he had.

Service is completly dead in or near Safeway. Minimal (1 or 2 bar) in Mount Vernon Square Apartments behind Safeway. Cingular service (with my phone and my wife's phone, anyway) blows throughout the Metro DC area.

At my son's house in Churchland most of the time I have no reception - cannot send or receive calls. When I leave his house and drive down Cedar Lane, once I've passed Rt. 164, my reception comes back - all 5 bars.

For some reason I am located per Alltel only 8 miles from their tower on a high hill which is a digital tower but when I am at home my phone goes into analog roaming off of a Highlands Cellular tower out of Beckley WV which is at least 70 miles away - figure that one out - Alltel did change my plan so when I am at home and can get a signal I am not charged for roaming minutes. If you are in the Gratton area and use Alltel you need to get a phone that has both digital and analog capabilities since you will have service off of the Beckley tower and it is analog - otherwise you will not get any service at all.

When my phone is just sitting in my room, it says it has 2 bars, but as soon as you press send, all of the sudden, there is only 1 and then 0, but the clock is going on the call. You just hear silence, but Verizon is charging. They are the WORST company I have ever dealt with. I've been trying for a month to resolve this problem, but they are just making me jump through hoops, while ignoring the problem. DON'T GET VERIZON!

According to Fairfax County Govt website (posted public info), Verizon Wireless applied for NEW cell site several years ago at 8616 POHICK RD (aka: Calvary Korean Baptist Church property) for a new 120' stealth tree-pole for their proposed "Chapel Acres" cell site. Unfortunately, application has been tied up by county staffers, DPWES, etc. Letters have been written to County Board supervisors, etc., to no avail. County wants proffers (freebies like street lights, shrubs, paved trails, etc.) before it will let them put up the site. Some county staffers estimate approval may occur soon. Site *may* be in-service by late 2006. But, we've heard that before! This area has been a dead spot for almost 2 decades. What gives??!

No reception after crossing New Kent Hwy. on Route 33 until you get near RCC Glens Campus on Route 33. Cingular really needs to raise the bar in this area. Not even in West Point and Route 33 is a fairly heavily traveled highway.
