Service previously worked until recently for Cingular Blue (TDMA). Now 9+ calls out of 10 get a fast busy signal and maybe one call out of 10 connects. Not just with my phone, but also with a relative's phone with the same service and a different phone model. Both phones get 3 out of 4 signal bars in the affected area.

Service is spotty, at best. Go with Verizon if you require service in Great Falls. Cingular craps out after leaving Spring Hill (where Spring Hill and Old Dominion intersect) in any direction.

Rt 658 (Five Forks Rd) / Back Hampden-Sydney Rd. intersection, Farmville, VA 23901 Mon Dec 19, 2005

Sprint coverage is gone by the time you reach Hampden-Sydney College, a mile off US 15; only expensive roaming is available on and around the campus, west on Five Forks Rd, and north on Back Hampden-Sydney Rd till you reach Farmville. In Farmville town, Sprint coverage is sporadic -- good on the northern side and on US 460 west and east, but in town it's sporadic (outside Wal-Mart it's possible, but in the store it's a roaming call). Hard to understand why Sprint never pushed its wireless division to build-out coverage here, as they own the local wireline-phone system and could've bundled quality cell service with it, as they do DSL broadband and satellite TV from other providers. US Cellular and Verizon are the only viable cell providers for Farmville-area residents.

Giant Northpoint / Reston Pkwy. intersection, Reston, VA 20194 Mon Dec 19, 2005

Cingular has no service at all inside Giant market with either a Samsung or Motorla phone, and we live just a few blocks away. You have to get very close to the door to call. We're switching to Verizon ASAP.

Cingular lied and has always lied about reception here. There has been none for five years, but it shows coverage on their Rappahannock County map.

I get absolutely no reception unless it is in the middle of winter and the phone is placed carefully in one spot on the third floor of my home; then I may get 1 bar. Cingular's coverage in rural central Virginia is atrocious. My entire neighborhood and even many parts of Chesterfield and more dense areas get low or no reception. Static also plagues calls even with 5 bars of service. Alltel worked much better back when we had it.
