CellularOne Eastbrooke is the cause of a huge dead zone of GSM coverage spanning from Roanoke, WV all the way towards Clendinin and Elkview, WV and to Fayetteville, WV. They have said they are going to GSM soon but that was months ago. According to GSM World launch was supposed to happen just this summer then was pushed back to this October and has yet to happen. Right now its a good safety issue that Emergency Only does now show up through that area covering a large chunk of I-79, US Rte. 19, and Rte. 33 towards Elkins. The company needs to work faster as the holidays approach it would be nice if the cell sites would be activated for emergency usage and regular calling just to keep lines open esp. when the snow starts to fall. They are very rude though in their Summersville store when asked about moving to GSM and just regular questions they seem to think they know everything and get really smart mouthed. They have no decent services to offer customers as they rip them off completely. They need to move faster to keep up with the growing popularity of GSM. EasyEdge from US Cellular was finally launched in WV but only Summersville, CellOne's main demographic area in Nicholas County, has the capabilities to use EasyEdge their knock off crappy way to access other programs but blocking you from making the phone more specialized for your needs and preferences. Get to GSM soon and fill in those dead areas outside of Richwood, Summersville, Snowshoe, Marlinton, Elkins, Buckhannon, and Craigsville.

No service. Closest cell site (Cingular) is a very low-powered 30-ft pole about 5 miles south with a range of only about 2 miles along Rt 28. Note: Area is within the National Radio Quiet Zone.

Flatwoods / From Mile 25 to Exit 67 intersection, Flatwoods, WV 26621 |

This has been a consistent problem as I travel to Flatwoods often on business. I had no signal within the hotel (on a hill), although other persons with AT&T, US Cellular, and Verizon services did have service. One other AT&T user had good reception outside of the hotel. I watched my phone as I drove south towards Charleston. I had no signal for at least 40 miles.

US Cellular advertises in the Pocahontas Times, a weekly newspaper located in Marlinton WV. I can only get reception near Hot Springs, VA and roaming at about 4700 feet on the Senic Highway.

US Cellular still claims it has service in Richwood, WV but they are lying. There is no service outside of Summersville making US Cell customers in a large black hole as they travel through Richwood to Snowshoe Mtn. Right now the only provider is TDMA Eastbrooke Cellular operating under the name CellularOne and they have only in town signal but nothing outside of town. With US Cell you have to drive within about 5 miles of the city line of Summersville to get great reception without fuzzy or dropped calls. CellOne has offered decent service through there by putting up the only tower in a huge dead zone between Craigsville and Summersville but still there is a slight dead zone before you get to the Muddelty split then you begin to get better signal. US Cell has really crappy coverage of Nicholas County and said they do not plan on expanding coverage so if your on Verizon, Alltel, or US Cell you will have no signal or Analog while driving Rt 55 from outside of Summersville to Richwood and Marlinton.

Area closed in by surrounding hills, no tower. Nearest tower for the Weston area is in Wetzel county. IF you can get connected its roaming.
