In downtown Brattleboro reception is consistently full bars. Guilford has gotten better in the last couple of months and there is usually at least enough reception to get an SMS out. I briefly had Unicel, and ditched it because the customer service was so dreadful.

I've never had a problem getting reception in and around North Adams, except near the base of Mt. Greylock.

Good reception all over areas near downtown Adams, north to N. Adams and South toward Cheshire. Signal wanes a bit when you get near the mountains in some areas, and gets low as you head toward Cheshire. But overall good signal

Please, please please... do not inflict Cellular One / Unicel / RCC upon yourself unless you've no other choice. I've been a loyal customer since 2003, but since they dropped the Cellular One label, they've become awful. Customer service is non-existent. Billing errors (always in their favor) are a monthly fact of life, and there's nothing you can do about it (I was even "accidentally disconnected" - Twice! - one day by their friendly customer service representative. Going in-store for something like paying your bill is a little like going to the DMV, except that the overweight, bleach blonde girl snapping her gum behind the counter is much less polite ("Hold on a minute- I'm in the middle of something!", returns to her personal call) I know all of this seems too harsh to be true, and their coverage _is_ undeniably good for this local area, but they will not treat your fairly, or well, as a person.

I get good service in this area. It is in and out on i91 but seems to be improving. Sprint / Nextel hasen't changed their coverage map online for some time now so don't go by that for info.

Nextel now is active in Brattleboro. They seem to have good coverage here. If you travel to Keene, New Hampshire from Brattleboro don't expect service. Nextel originally had Keene on their list for future coverage but took it off. They are expanding slow in these areas. There is a big dead spot on I-91 between Brattleboro and Bellows Falls, VT. They show future coverage in the dead spot area. Since their merger with Sprint coverage hasen't grown much. iden is an old technology now so they might not want to put up any more of the old technology. Everything will eventually be CDMA... Sprints technology. Anyway, post more if you have any more info on Nextel in Southern VT.

There are places at the state college where reception is weak, but in general I can make calls anywhere in town. I have only lost calls when walking around the massive cement architecture on campus.

if it rains or even if it is foggy good luck with service but other than that its good Verizon is just as bad I use to own that to but they rip you off on your bills

Twisting through the mountains coverage can be a bit spotty. But in towns large enough to have a few feet of sidewalk and at the resort it is fine.

T-Mobile works excellent were the new Unicel towers are up and running on GSM. NOTE: YOU MUST HAVE A GSM-850 CAPABLE CELL PHONE! Most older T-Mobile phones and many new ones do NOT have this feature! Please make note when purchasing a new phone, if you plan on traveling in rural areas, it MUST have GSM-850 to have any chance of receiving a signal. Many Motorola phones contain a quad-band chipset which allows it to work anywhere in the world that GSM service is available, including the rural areas such as VT.

Cingular now has limited service in this area of Vermont. Unicel(RCC) Rural Cellular Corp. is now converting their towers to GSM which Cingular has signed a contract with. Service will start to pop up at the ski areas and along I-91 as Unicel continues its build out. The service is very limited but its expanding. I've been investigating Southern Vermont's cellular coverage for some time now and still haven't come across anyone who has great service except the small cellular companies that reside there. ie... Us Cellular(CDMA) and Unicel(GSM). Verizon has analog(AMPS) in Southen Vermont but analog is the worst ever. The best technology for the future is (GSM). The majority of the world uses this technology. So if you travel overseas then this is what you want. Cingluar's (GSM) is building up pretty quick. There are dead spots here and there but all cell companies have their dead spots and problems especially in Vermont. Usually the cell companies give you a short time to try out your phone. Nextel is also putting up towers along I-91 for those of you interested in walkie-talkie. They operate on a separate iDEN network created by Motorolla. They have limited technology but should expand with the merger with Sprint. In conclusion if you can wait for the technology to get better I suggest you go with (GSM)Cingular in Vermont. The service will only get better.

Sometimes I get two bars but it seems for some reason after a certain hour of the night... I get none. Not sure why-but it always seems to happen after about 9pm til 8am. Maybe it's where I put my phone at night. So I'd say service is spotty. Any other time during the day I get great service.
