Towers are built and improvements are constantly made, so the most recent comments are most reliable. But when determining which provider to go with, get a general feel rather than focusing on individual comments.

Eventually, as you read through the comments, you can see a general trend as to which service provider is superior in the area. Hopefully this will give you more of an idea rather than walking into a service plan blind. Sort by Carrier, City, Zip Code, Reception Rating, or Date by clicking on the header.

The only "dead" spots I have found among traveling in my part of North Rockland, or anywhere in Rockland County were the following: 1. PIP - between Exits 10 and 11 both directions. Lasts maybe 30 seconds, then I'm full bar. 2. South Mountain Rd.- between 202 and Little Tor Road. 5 seconds where I have no signal. That's about it. I've traveled all over the County this year, and have had no problems. The only total dead spot, ironically, is inside the Best Buy store at the Palisades Center Mall in W. Nyack. And, they are a Verizon provider. The other cell companies work there. That's a mystery.

I've had great reception since switching to Verizon. I generally get 4-5 bars of signal strength. I had T-Mobile before switching and they were NOT good at all in this area. I had many dropouts using T-Mobile going from NY to Boston. I have maybe 2 dropouts using Verizon.

With the new T-Mobile tower at exit 10 on the Pallisades (where no carrier had any service), T-Mobile has "raised the bar" for sure. I used to have no bars and now have 5 bars. This coverage extends into previous deadspots along route 304. Coverage for T-Mobile has also gotten better with them adding the 850 "band" to their towers. My phone also has EDGE, which means I now have Internet 4x faster for no additional charge! I have had Cingular and Verizon in the past, but overall, T-Mobile is far superior in Customer Service, price, and now coverage is creeping into the range of everyone. 1500 minutes? 39.99!

Cingular digital service is very strong in this area. Tried Verizon Wireless and got no service at all. Cingular tower located on top of water tower on nearby hill.

Cingular IS the ONLY service to get around here. No cheap deal is worth the frustration of not reaching someone because they are in a grocery. Spend less on a phone - more on service.

After trying all the services (Verizon, Sprint, T-Mobile) I find that Cingular / AT&T together give you the best range and clarity in Monsey, New Hempstead, Wesley Hills, Nanuet, New City, Bardonia, Chestnut Ridge, Airmont, suffern areas. I could never get rexeption in my home with any other carrier. Cingular "All Bars"!

I have Verizon and have never had any trouble with reception in the Croton area. I'm not sure why all the others do. The only complaints I usually hear about service hear is for AT&T.

Nextel is the only carrier with reception on lower Somerston and Flanders area..I tried out Verizon and AT&T neither worked and T-Mobile said it would probably be spotty over in this area also..Nextel seems to work the best in upper Westchester and Mahopac area.

Upper westchester county is a tough area, lots of hills and valleys. Some real dead spots on Route 9 in Croton. Around Peekskill the signal stays moderate. It is my understanding that the service and by all providers are fairly even in upper Westchester County.

Spotty reception if you are not moving. Cingular rep was suprised that I would get any - nearest tower is 9 miles away in Westchester. 0-1 bar on most of Palisades Pkwy. from Exit 16 to exit 10.

Can get up to 3 bars EV and 1X, but usually 1 or 2. Have never had a dropped call from Verizon. Have been using them for over 5 years and the only dead zone I have encountered was in the Bear Mountain State Park at the Gold Mine pond.

At about Exit 11, reception used to be no bars at all. But since Cingular joined with At&t, the reception has grown to about 1 or 2 bars with a limited amount of dropped calls.

Rt 129 / Fox Run Rd., Croton On Hudson, NY 10520 Thu Aug 06, 2009

AT&T and the iPhone get spotty coverage in Croton On Hudson. Outside the village the signal is two bars. In the village there is a major dead zone around Grand (129) and Main St.for several blocks around. Sprint did not have a dead zone. AT&T, Verizon, and most GSM phones will. As of Aug 1 2009 a new tower was errected at the Train Station and several providers are going to be serviced. Verizon is not one of the early ones, but AT&T and some others are. Maby in several months service will be better. But for now, Croton is a Dead Zone.
