I have had Verizon back since they were NYNEX Mobile and it's paying off because even in my little town that nobody has even heard of (Sound Beach, NY), I get full service. Everywhere I go on Long Island I do not ever drop a call except for certain north shore spots in Nassau. I would advise any friend or family member to go with Verizon Wireless because you won't have to worry about dropping calls.

I've read many of the reviews that are posted here. I feel sorry for everyone. I have an (MM04 / 01)). I get 5 bars wherever I go and never have a dropped call. The reception is as clear as a bell. When everyone standing near me has no bars, I have 5. Consider this your first Apri Fool joke. In all candor, the phone makes the difference, not the company. They're all the same. In your particular area with your particular phone it could be great. Somewhere else with the same company and the same phone it could be lousy. I wish I could sort these comments by location and find out what company and phone are best in my area.

I Had T-Mobile for about 3 Years I got that service in Boston after I had to drop Sprint because they were the worst service ever! but anyway, Had T-Mobile but switched to Cingular because of billing issues..never had service issues with T-Moibie..I am with Cingular now and let me tell you, they are gonna keep Verizon on their toes. I can get full bars at my Brothers house in Center Moriches, when I had Nothing with T-Mobile... Love it so far, I have not dropped a call yet... I anywhere from 2 to 5 bars at all times..have not seen the "No Service" message yet..Keepin My fingers crossed...

Have or had all 3 major providers. Sprint gets no signal anywhere near what one would call "close" to here. Have Verizon in car with booster, have to drive about 2 miles to get a signal at the shopping center at 25A and Wading River Manorville Road. Have AT&T on the Treo and get 4 bars in driveway, 0-1 bars inside the house. This is no doubt caused by the aluminum foil facing on the house insulation. Theres a AT&T Tower near the Winebago joint west of Wading River Manorville Rd.on Route 25A which is about 6,200 feet from me. I think the closest Verizon is at Shoreham Power plant site which is about twice as far away. I can pretty much maintain a signal from my house to Port Jeff ferry all along North Country Road. Lose voice contact in one of the dips in the road but usually call doesn't drop and can hear caller again about a half mile later. Get good signal on both east end forks though in Greenport if I cam close enough to water, I will pick up a tower in Connecticut sometimes rather than a Long Island one. No worries, at laast not with free long distance. Can maintain call easily all the way from home to NYC and Albany via Port Jeff ferry (lose it for about 10 minutes on Route 8 on Connecticut / Massachussets border tho). Also lose signal sometimes in desolate locations on Route 17 to Buffalo. Kept Verizon account active in car to take advantage for built in hands free for a year but never did find a spot where I had Verizon signal and no AT&T signal so saw no need for 2 carriers and dropped Verizon service and use BT headset with AT&T while driving.

I did some drive testing with Cellumap around Suffolk County, and the AT&T 3G coverage looks pretty good. If you go to the main page, select "ATT" from the network drop-box, and "3G" from the box next to it, and press "Signal Strength" below, you can see the actual coverage my phone reported: cellumap (dot) com

Currently I am using a Cingular prepaid sim card. I was recently upstate NY (in Delhi) and could not get a signal at all. When I called Cingular about this problem, I was told it was because I was using a prepaid sim and did not have a plan, therefore, I could not roam to different towers. I always have full bars on the Island but I want to be able to use the phone away from home. T-Mobile has a USA Max sim for $139.00 that can be used across the entire US and for International calls also. I'm thinking of switching to the T-Mobile sim card because I do not want to be locked into a plan. Does anyone think I'm making a mistake switching to T-Mobile?

I had this phone from when At&T was still a seperate entity. They were a godsend, Cingular is a nightmare. While the gsm service was wonderful. After the takeover by cingular, it seems that maintainence has fallen victim. My phone still gets better reception in buildings basements and out on the east end (the hamptons), than my friends with Verizon and sprint. but I often experience dropped calls or not being able to connect with no explination (my phone is reading full bars). But this is not the worst problem with cingular. almost every other month since they changed over I have had some kind of billing dispute with them. The contract I signed with AT&T said that I could change my plan at any time and have the changes appear on my next billing cycle. When I removed the wireless internet option they tried to tell me that it was going to take 3 months for the change to take effect. Just recently they turned off my service for a day because they had a check declined. the problem was with my banks check 21 system, but they never bothered to submit it a second time (working within a processing company I can tell you resubmitting is almost standard with the check 21 system). they just cancelled my service. once I got them on my landline my service was back on within an hour. But this month they tried to charge me a reconnection fee of 25 dollars (they did waive this fee once I contacted them about it). They also do not provide the numbers of incoming calls on your monthly statement, which has been an issude for me in legal matters. in short the gsm service is good, the company running it is not.

Never have had a problem in the last 4 years. A year or so ago service improved at Stony Brook Hospital to Max bars anywhere in the building. Other family members have Verizon and Att. The Sprint service is a little better than both where I am. Neither Sprint. Verizon, or AT&T stand out as an absolute winner. I'm going to try metro PCS after getting some very favorable feedback from a neighbor. Research thier AWS network. It sounds to be the upcomming "state of the art". Price is right, we will see.

I get good reception in my apartment but when I go anywhere on Route 25A up till the VA hospital in Northport my calls get dropped and even on Nichols Rd.(Suffolk Route 97). My friends who do not have Sprint are always surprised when I tell them about the dropped calls because they say that they have never gotten any dropped calls. Sprint needs to work on this area more.
