Towers are built and improvements are constantly made, so the most recent comments are most reliable. But when determining which provider to go with, get a general feel rather than focusing on individual comments.

Eventually, as you read through the comments, you can see a general trend as to which service provider is superior in the area. Hopefully this will give you more of an idea rather than walking into a service plan blind. Sort by Carrier, City, Zip Code, Reception Rating, or Date by clicking on the header.

Most of the time reception is very good. Occasionally will get a dropped call or the bars will go down for a short time.

Excellent reception in Gunbarrel and around Boulder. Maybe 1-2 dropped calls in 5 months. Reception not so great in the mountains.

I get full reception but calls are dropped all the time. I can hear other people, but no one can ever hear me. I have to drive a few miles away and call them back, then it works fine.

Verizon Wireless service works well for me almost everywhere in Louisville, Boulder and Denver. Signal strength varies, but "dead spots" are rare.

Sprint is awesome and sanyo makes great phones! My cell phone works everywhere, even through the Eisenhower Tunnel. Sprint is the best!

I must say that everywhere in my apartment building I have full bars all the time. I actually haven't experienced any dead spots that I can think of anywhere in Longmont. Only going up into the mountains there are obviously some issues as is the case with almost any handset.

I get the best coverage I have ever had with any cell phone here with Sprint, I do know that they have a bad location on 17th and Pace, but that is the only "dead zone" I know of in Longmont and surrounding. I also get reception at the top of Baseline Rd. in Boulder. I sell cell phones and I know that coverage is not only based on towers, but also on the quality of your phone. If you're getting a phone in Longmont, you should have a Sprint PCS phone made by Sanyo... best reception and phone I have ever owned!

I have nothing but good reception all around with Verizon. Downtown, DIA, Boulder, Ft. Collins, Colorado Springs. I have never had a problem with my reception except for where you wouldn't expect any just with other carriers (i.e. the middle of nowhere) My service is great even when I travel out of town, different states or even country.

I have had Sprint for over 4 years, I will have to say I have always had great coverage for the most part. There are a few spots I always loose service but I understand why. ATT is no good thats for sure, I had them for my work phone and it sucked. I have tried to switch to TMobile but I took it back within 2 days because the service is soooo bad. The days of the past qwest was my favorite but they are now teamed up with verizon. I would go with verzion but it would cost me more than $50 per month to have the same features on my plan. Flip side I use their Curve 8330 and well that phone sucks.

Sprint has 3 to 5 bar signal strength. Verizon kept loosing reception and dropped numerous calls in West Arvada. Sprint works best in West Arvada compared to the other 4 major cell phone companies.

FINALLY, after more than a decade or the worst reception in the world, Verizon has built a tower near 80th and Kipling and we now get 3-4 bars at our house where we used to never get any. We coudn't receive or make calls for fear of dropped calls before but now we can actually take advantage of our long distance plan and make calls to our kids out of state. Wonderful at last!

I was thinking of dumping Qwest because they can't update a simple PRL. After reading this, I think I'll stick with them. In town, it just works, every time -- even in my basement. Most places on the road (roaming), it just works.

I used to have a lowend Nokia before the iPhone. Many times it showed No Service, and when it did work, it was around 3 or 4 bars. The iPhone wasn't much better. However I bought a Wi-Ex YX510 booster for the house. Most of the time it's 5 bars and clear as a bell, but sometimes at random, it drops to No Service. So the booster helps when there's signal to boost, but sometimes AT&T just goes dead it seems. The only solution to all these problems is to lobby Congress in mass. They're more afraid of not getting re-elected than they are about losing the carrier lobby bribes. As always YMMV...

Valmont / 29th, Boulder, CO 80301 Wed Feb 20, 2008

Virgin mobile prepaid minutes plan has given us great reception with no hidden costs (i.e. massive TAXES). Virgin mobile uses the Sprint network. When we moved here 5 years ago I had Verizon wireless on a satallite plan which I signed up for in NY. I had great reception with the satellite but when I switched off of satellite the reception was useless in Boulder. I went without a cell phone until I tried Virgin Mobile at a risk of $25 that covered the cost of the phone + $20 in airtime.
