I have switched to Sprint from T-Mobile in December 2015. I used data service and made phone call in Manhattan (below Harlem), Edgewater, all over in Queens, Edgewater, NJ, and so far I have absolutely no complaints.

On a good day I get two bars in my apartment. I can get three bars in a specific five square foot area of my apartment. The common areas of my apartment building are much worse. One bar or less is standard unless you are twenty feet or less from a building entrance. Cell service is generally bad on Riverside Blvd. but inside the buildings it is horrendous. I dont know if this is due to the construction of the buildings around here, or a lack of cell towers or the fact that ABC has a studio with a massive satellite dish the is causing interference. Or perhaps Verizon just plain sucks. But it's not like any of the other carriers suck less right?

Service is garbage. Can't place or receive calls and I'm only on the third fl of my UWS apartment. Can't wait for my contract to run out and I'll switch to T-MO

The other reviews on here don't take into account this is NYC, even though some of the reviewers appear to live and work here. New York has several complications for cell phone carriers. Tall buildings is one obvious one. Cell phone towers have limits to their range. When you work in a tall building on a floor above 20 or so, you can probably expect poor service unless your building has some way to boost signal strength. My suggestion is if you have a phone that allows you to connect to the internet wirelessly, do so. Some providers (T-Mobile is one) even allow you to make phone calls through this wireless connection. This problem with tall buildings is common to any cell phone provider in New York. Another issue of course is the large underground rail and subway system. Cell phone providers have begun creating a network at the platforms. You can get service at most platforms in Manhattan and in some platforms in the other boroughs. Service while on a moving train is almost non-existent, as it would require allowing the providers to get into the tunnels to set up some sort of continuous network. For now, it doesn't exist, and it doesn't matter which provider you have, the issue is the same. Most New Yorkers know their smartphones won't work while the train is in motion and underground. Other than these two instances, I have great service anywhere I have been in NYC. I understand that tall buildings and subway tunnels are a tough issue for the providers to resolve. Just be realistic in your expectations. What you really should be concerned with is when one provider can't get decent service in NYC where others have no issue (Sprint). If you live here, switch to someone else. If you're just visiting, grin and bear it or pick up a prepaid phone from another carrier that you can use while here.

Terrible service. I am constantly travelling around the city and rarely get "4G" and when I do its terrible speeds. I can stand in one spot and run the full gambit from 4G to 3G to 1x to no service without moving. Full "4G" right now, just ran speed test and getting 2.91Mbps. A Tmo co-worker just got 29.91Mbps, with only 2 bars 4G. Just not worth it to save the few $ that my company discounts for sprint, today they lose another customer. Cant wait to get the Note4 on Tmobile!

Many times I get no reception at all. Phone says "No internet connection" with full bars. Crappy!

My phone is basically useless inside buildings. I'm forced to either use my office phone or head outside to the street to make a call. I've also noticed recently the "red x" next to reception icon on my phone when trying to make calls / send texts while outside. I'm unable to use my phone for a good 30 minutes whenever this happens. My GF has Verizon and experiences none of these issues.

I noticed that overall, the service is getting worse. Either too many users or not enough towers and / or servers to handle the rapid population increase. Verizon's coverage map is NOT a true representation of their service coverage.
