AT&T

Just got a Cingular phone and couldn't be happier in Midtown. I even have service on the 35th floor of my office building. My coworkers have to stand near the windows and are constantly dropping.

Service in Grand Central Station is terrific. Even on the tracks. My friend, who has Verizon, envies me since he gets no service in the lower levels of Grand Central. I guess Cingular is raising the bar!

According to the cell tower map... there's a tower ON our building. While my phone indicates a decent signal (3 to 4 bars), the quality is awful. Reception is full of dropouts and garbled sound. Moving near a window does not help. St.level is OK. We have found that virtually all carriers have similar problems... thus indicating some type of signal interference or crowdedness.

Unbelievable... It's two days that I am completely unreachable. The phone works perfectly... as a matter of fact as long as I'm closer to 8th avenue it works great. As soon as I start walking towards 10th avenue, the line drops and I have no signal, when I used to have it for the last 2 months. Not only, often the phone shows full signal strength, but no matter what number I call the lines are always busy... My two friends who also have Cingular have had the same problem. They better put up some repeaters, or they'll lose all their customers in the area... I'll be the first one Cingular, raising the bar... .funny, huh?

Many times, people call me and say that they've been trying for several times but get the message that "All circuits are busy" and it just hangs up - doesn't even go to voicemail... The idiots have oversold their service and need more towers or bandwidth or additional frequencies... It happens to me EVERY NIGHT! I just switched just over 2 months ago - is there any way to break my contract and not pay because I'm not getting the service I pay for?!

Verizon has the best service! most of my friends have T-Mobile and Cingular and have at the most 2 bars! veerizon also needs to offer more features that T-Mobile and Cingular phones offer! I suggest you get a tri-mode phone for NYC.

Aside from no reception in my apartment, I get dropped calls quite often. Service has just gone downhill since Cingular merged with AT&T. Heard good things about Verizon, for those who are looking.

Decent in apartment. Sitting about 15 feet from window. Sound quality is fair, with occassioinal pops and cracks.

calls usually don't drop out, but quite often with Sprint I get voicemail from like, four hours earlier. Maybe that happens about once every few months. Sprint isn't as good as I hear Verizon is, and their phones are pretty wack, but they are really cheap.

Paid $500 for state of the art phone, locked in for a year (or two? God I forget... ) and the thing doesn't work AT ALL in my office. Every other cell phone I've ever seen works fine in my office (it's made of glass) except the T-Mobile phones. Run, don't walk: run, somewhere else. I have a great phone, which (as noted elsewhere in comments) works better on deserted islands 5000 miles away from home, than it does in midtown Manhattan. Ridiculous. Somebody -- anybody -- should be fired. IT in NYC
