AT&T
No reception at all for voice calling on the 3rd floor of 10 W. 15th Street. EDGE (data) requests succeed sporadically, but definitely are not instantaneous. My other cellphone is a Motorola RAZR on the T-Mobile network. It gets 5 bars in the exact same location as my Blackberry 8310 on the AT&T network. Friends with iPhones (on AT&T) were unable to place or receive phone calls or texts from my apartment. There is definitely an AT&T dead zone where I live.

I just switched to T-mobile, and I have no service at all in Grand Central Terminal, New York. Can't believe it.

the only place I've lost cell reception is on the NE corner of 40th St.and 5th Ave. (across from the NY Public Library). Step off the curb, and the reception is fine again.

Phone says 3-4 bars, but drops calls repeatedly. Could be the UN, but Verizon users don't seem to have the same problem.

3g Service in Union Square NYC is non existing. I had a Nokia N75 and I thought my problem was the old handset (well thats what the AT&T store reps said trying to make me renew my contract ). Now that I have the iphone 3gs I get the same problem. I spoke with a rep at the AT&T store on 14th street and he told me to switch to EDGE for a week. I spoke to numerous reps over the phone and they said it seems to be faulty 3g cell towers in the area being worked on. I say we all should complain and get a class action lawsuit going on and get some money back or get AT&T to change the rates for 3G service... ..

No problems, works beautifully unless deep inside a building.

Terrible coverage. Slow speeds. 3G blows. EDGE is too slow.

There is an AT&T store right there too, and just two buildings in there's almost never any reception. Also, Bowery, 6th and 7th Ave between Houston and 14th St.make up a whole swath of poor-to-no reception. Its like a huge chunk of lower Manhattan is just off the grid.

I have the first edition iPhone and have had virtually no problems with my phone wherever I may have gone. I've even gotten random pings of reception in the subway! Very strong signal and data transfers, even though the unit was purchased over a year and a half ago (and subsequently dropped many, many times). I've had typical call drops in elevators, but that's pretty much it.
