Hideous reception. Phone often fails to ring and goes straight to voice mail. Calls constantly dropped. Poor and garbled audio particularly when using "Direct Connect" feature. Frequently receive "no service" message. Experienced problems throughout the city. Was this review helpful to you?
The reception in general in the Bryn Mawr area is TERRIBLE with T-Mobile. I can only talk in my house if standing directly by our bay window, leaning a bit out. When driving, calls are dropped like they were hot coals. T-Mobile has wonderfully priced plans but what's the use if the service sucks? The service is suspect even in downtown Philadelphia where I work. I would recommend Verizon without a doubt to anyone interested in SE PA cell phone service. Was this review helpful to you?
AT&T Wireless (GSM)
My phone is dual TDMA/GSM/ Roam on Cingular (Extended Area). Despite having at least 3 choices, I get essentially no reception inside my house - varying from 1 bar to no service, making all those extra night/weekend minutes worthless. In fairness, I must live in some sort of reception blank spot - I can go 1/4 mile up the road and get 4 bars and generally reception is good thruout area. But not at my house. Sprint, my former carrier was no better. I'm going to try Verizon next. Was this review helpful to you?

AT&T Wireless (GSM)
Excellent reception outside of my building. Fair in the dorm, AT&T was better for me in other cities, but thier network is improving. Acceptable, but not the best. About the same as Verizon...Was this review helpful to you?

Overall, I would rate T-mobile as average in the Philadelphia area (even thoough coverage in my immediate home area is good). There are 3 spots on the Schykhill Expressway where the calls inadvertently drop (my commute to work); btw, I use a Nokia 6610 with the service, which I used to replace my Ericsson T68i, which performed poorer. I have found the service to be below average to poor when traveling out of town. It drops calls with alarming frequency on major highways in the area, when I traveled from Philly to Toronto, Canada, which included interstate highways 476, 81, 90 and the Niagara area. GSM coverage needs to improve considerably to catch up to international coverage standards, and I keep hearing that plans to aggressively install newer towers over the next 6-12 months are under way. Let's hope that to be true, cause I could sure use better coverage. Btw, I used to be a Nextel user, which I would rate as Very Good in the Philadelphia area, especially with the Motorola I90c phone.
