AT&T Wireless (GSM)

The Service has been rock solid for years. But a few months ago I started missing random calls... only to be notified of voicemail hours later. The phone always showed full service level.

Though reception is great and I rarely have clarity issues, Sprint seems completely unwilling to help me out since I have an older phone. Their service center wouldn't update the firmware even though when calling customer service they said I should get it updated there. They claimed this might fix the dropped calls, non-getting of calls, etc (even with full 5 bars and ability to call out), though none of the many reps could tell me exactly HOW the firmware was able to cause this problem. Sprint provided NO resolution to this problem, therefore they are losing my business.

Sprint has worked well in this area and never a dropped call in Arlington. I can even hold a conversation in a 20 + floor building elevator. There is NO reception in the metro, but to be expected unless you use Verizon. I've heard that they are the only carrier with coverage in the metro. As for Sprint, I've had some dropped calls when I'm in the city, but overall it has been quite good.

Reception is very good. I do not have any issues outside or in our building. The phones does have problems in the garage as well as in Chadwicks but other then that it works well.

My Sprint connection is OK here, but I sometimes get dropped calls depending on where I'm standing in my house. Verizon gets substantially better reception while ATT has terrible reception (if any at all).

I had AT&T TDMA for 4 years before switching. Granted I switched to GSM for about a month and was very disappointed so swithced back to my good ol' V60. Now I switched to Sprint and the service is great. The only reason I switched was because all of my friends who had Sprint never had any problems. Verizon sucks in this area, especially in any of the buildings. It's kind of a trade off. Where one service works, another won't and vice versa. I'm thinking about switching to Cingular now because of the merger and they have much better more mobile phones versus Sprint's older network.

My reception has been very good. I use my phone for sales so I drive not only all over the Greater Washington region - but also between NYC and NC frequently. There is one dead spot in Washington where 267 is merging into 66 (near West Falls Church metro) - and I believe this is true for all carriers - not just Verizon. I also get little to no reception inside of my home. Once I step outside - no problem. My former residence at Washington Blvd and Route 50 got great reception inside a basement unit.

For the first time ever (4 years now) I was able to get 4 bars in the middle of the restaurant, until the ATT / Cingular merger, I was only able to get 1 bar, and that was only in the front of the restaurant near the window - very impressive.

T-Mobile coverage is very poor at Dupont Circle. I can go days without service in my office and have to walk down to M St. before I get a decent signal. I'm going to switch to ATT / Cingular.

Great reception almost everywhere. Only issue is with voice mail access. When out of local area, the system will not allow me to access it. Very frustrating.
