Verizon

3 Out of 5 (3 stars) | County Rd.75, Saint Joe, IN 46785 |

voice varies but averages 2 bars. not uncommon to drop a call. data on phones is spotty, but if you find just the right spot for a hotspot (like on a high shelf) I get a solid 15Mbps. expensive, but best option for my home internet.

AT&T

4 Out of 5 (4 stars) | DOWNTOWN, Defiance, OH 43512 |

* Great Reception * 4G * Data speeds as high as 7 Mbps Download * Big improvement at end of May when they brought 4G in, previously had 2G EDGE (Very bad service) * See the Root Metrics coverage map in Defiance and Napoleon to see the new results. Old results were the black, the new results are green and sometime orange.

AT&T

Reception is great. Billing / Customer Service is terrible even though they seem all friendly and concerned. Changes to account (In store AND by phone) do not take effect. Added phone to family plan and get billed separately... and it just goes on and on. Maybe when they lose the monopoly to Hicksville air space they will pay attention.

Decent Calling service in Defiance and Napoleon, Ohio. However data coverage is still EDGE (2G). They said that Defiance will be 4G and Napoleon will be 3G on May 16th, 2013 so we will see.

Verizon

4 Out of 5 (4 stars) | State Rd.101 | Scipio Rd., Spencerville, IN 46788 |

4G coverage is present and works very well. Only has occasional minor slip-ups where the phone switches down to 3G, but this is easily fixable. Best coverage out in this area, by far. AT&T has good service as well, but if you want to surf the internet, Verizon is better and more reliable. Sprint? Pfffft. Non-existant in this neck of the woods.

Verizon coverage is decent. I can talk on my Droid2 inside the house and in the basement. Our Mifi 2200 works well if located in a window. Verizon 3g speeds are good. 4g is better with good coverage.

AT&T

3 Out of 5 (3 stars) | New Haven, New Haven, IN 46774 |

I've been with AT&T since they bought centennial wireless, was with them for a couple years. I would say service is fair to good have only had a few dropped called in the entire time with them. I do have issue with breaking up during calls, slow sending texts and even times when my phone never rings them I have a voicemail. Customer service depends on who you get on the phone. I you go into a store they can usually help but again depends on who you talk to. My biggest problem with them is their "unlimited" data plan, you get 2 gigs per month, no more. If you go over, you have to pay extra. I'm unsure I they still offer this plan but I was with them when they did offer it and was grandfathered in. Which honestly is BS because they legally can't change your plan on you and so they continue to call it the "unlimited" data plan but in reality it isn't. Typical legal BS. I have Verizon as my work phone and have unlimited data with them as we'll (which is truly unlimited) have had about the same luck with them. At times if I don't have coverage with AT&T I will with Verizon and vise versa but coverage is probably a bit better with Verizon. I absolutely hate Verizon's customer service though it is crap crap crap. I have an iPhone with AT&T and a droid with Verizon, they both have draw backs but defiantly like the iPhone better except that I have to use ITunes which is stupid, plan and simple it's not simple and it is a pain in the ass. The drip interface sucks though. I don't think anyone that complains about iPhones and has a droid has ever touched an iPhone. The best thing I can say about droid is clunky. iPhone is smooth and effortless except when you want to put music on your phone then it is a pain in the ass. Where as the droid is very easy and friendly. Again they both have drawbacks but I'd take my iPhone any day over any type of droid based phone. I will likely get a second iPhone when my plan is up with Verizon but stick with Verizon just so that I can be guaranteed service. If phone companies had half a brain in their head or actually wanted to SERVE THEIR CUSTOMERS, they would come out with a phone that had two SIM cards so you could have (now this seems revolutionary to a phone company I know) two, that's right two phone numbers. Even I I had to pay twice it would be better than carrying two freaking phones around. It's such a hassle and at times seems almost showy. I don't WANT two phones, I want two numbers. Why is that so hard to understand???!???!?? Off topic but why not put a phone brain into a TV? Wouldn't that be cool if you could actually do all the stuff your pocket sized computer could do on your TV? Man wake the F up! Stupid electronic company's. do something new instead of keeping it lame.

Well, they turned on the tower, got everyone excited about it by putting up a flyer and now have turned the tower back off. No one at Verizon knows anything about this tower. Hope they figure out what they are doing in the next 12 days so I know whether or not I am going to have to take my phone back!

AT&T

2 Out of 5 (2 stars) | State Rd.101 | State Rd.37, Spencerville, IN 46788 |

Horrible for data service - forget it No streaming video Takes forever to download youtube No Skype No banking because you never know when you're gonna time out. Hard to buy tickets because it wants you to complete the transaction in two minutes. We were promised 3G after AT&T purchased Cingular but we never got it. Our signal ranged from -103 to -87 on average - on a really lucky day with just the right amount of overcast sky we might get -79 for a very short period of time. But no 3G service - just Edge. Spent alot of time on the line with support but nothing really ever improved. Would not recommend AT&T out here!

1 or 2 bars tops - dropped calls are an everyday event. Half the time my phone doesn't even ring in. I get a voice mail ping instead. I'm really disappointed with Sprint's service

AT&T

4 Out of 5 (4 stars) | Antwerp Town, Antwerp, OH 45813 |

A T and T is the only provider that works in Antwerp. They are building a new Verizon / Alltel tower in Antwerp currently. I hope that this will improve service and give A T and T some competition in Antwerp town, which is a problem for both Sprint and Verizon. Paulding also has trouble with Sprint and Verizon coverage in the town itself.

Verizon

4 Out of 5 (4 stars) | South Jefferson | Carter Rd., Defiance, OH 43512 |

Verizon is the only cell phone provider to offer 3g speeds in the Defiance area. I have an iPad 2 and an iPhone 4. The iPad 2 uses the Verizon network (prepaid plan), and the iPhone 4 uses AT&T's network (StraightTalk simm). Verizon's network speeds are by far superior to AT&T (Edge only here). However, I wouldn't say the connection is perfect, because there are areas in Defiance where my iPad 2 data seems to go slower-- Netflix will play great in some places over the 3g, but in some places it is poor quality video and lags out. The cost per Gigabyte is outrageous ($20 for only 1GB per month- plan only available on prepaid-- you have to pay $30 a month for 2 GB if it's an iPhone 4-- note: that could be different now so check their current pricing). Overall I would recommend Verizon if you are going to get a cell phone in the Defiance area. They are expensive compared to others, but the quality of the service is the best of out of the three I have tried (Sprint, AT&T, Verizon)... though it is not perfect. Voice coverage isn't perfect, but it's better than you are going to get through anything else..

AT&T

3 Out of 5 (3 stars) | South Jefferson | Carter Rd., Defiance, OH 43512 |

I am running an iphone 4 on the Straight Talk network, which uses AT&T. The signal strength is better than Sprint where I live (Sprint coverage is horrible and there is NO 3g at all, and whatever it is they do offer is horrid slow-- you may as well say you have NO data). On AT&T, coverage is great in Defiance city-- I'm not sure how well it does outside of town as I haven't tested it that well, but I was on centennial in the past, which used the same towers so coverage is going to be okay with this as well I'm sure. The big downer for me is that AT&T is still offering only the Edge network all over this area, so no 3G. Verizon is the only 3g carrier in this entire area, but the cost of having an iphone is nearly $100 a month for limited talk, text, and data. So for $45, sure I'm stuck on the edge network, but I get unlimited talk and text and up to 2gig (which I will never use that this speed) of data without raising eyebrows at straighttalk... the data is fast enough to watch YouTube videos at low quality, browse the internet at around 56k dial-up speeds, and check / post updates to my facebook (though in some areas, there was a timeout due to the spotty data coverage)... I was inside Kohls last weekend and was able to check facebook and post a couple status updates. If I want or need to do more than that, I just take my Verizon ipad with me.

GREAT RECEPTION - 5 BARS! Only complaint is that the coverage is still EDGE and not 3G, but I am happy with reception.

I get 1 / 2 bar to 1 bar in my home on the south end of town. Around town I get 3 to 4 bars. It's an Android phone through StraightTalk, and the phone is okay, but the choice to use Sprint really sucks. I wish it was Verizon, because Sprint is the only major carrier here that still hasn't put 3g in. I get a signal on my ipad2 through Verizon all over the place, even 3g out in Paulding County where my sister lives. Amazingly though, my Sprint connection is slightly better and faster out in the boonies of Paulding County than here in Defiance City. I would not recommend getting a 3g phone through Sprint around here. Verizon is much better. I am not sure about AT&T.
