AT&T
No service at all today, although my phone shows 2-3 bars. Phone keeps dialing, then finally says "Network busy". Can't find any info online about an outage.

Sprint
I have had Sprint service for over 10 years. They were the best BEFORE they merged with Nextel. Since the merger the service has been up and down. I have had a lot of different phones and it depends on the phone and the area you live in that determines your reception. All the companies know this and they should recommend phones that works best in your area.

Verizon
4G Coverage at my house is pretty good with me getting 3-4 bars all the way from my basement to my attic. I have occasionally dropped calls with an older 3G Android phone though. Being a WSU student 4G coverage on campus is much better than 3G for some reason. I get better coverage in fringe areas(basements). In some buildings I get 5 full bars even in the center of campus. I'm beginning to think WSU has repeaters on campus to improve cell coverage.

Sprint
The service is very spotty. Messages barely send. iMessage never works. Anything using the data service is very slow. Most of the time they just don't upload. I'm always getting the "connection failed" message. I wait until I get home just to turn wifi on my iPhone. I only actually use my phone at home. I have never gotten a dropped call, but the calling service is very fuzzy. I regret switching to Sprint. There is no point in unlimited data if you can't even use it.

Virgin Mobile
At this location calls do not drop, they come in great. Data it pitiful. I average about 40kbps or lower most of the time here. The data will randomly jump to about 150kbps. Virgin mobile is on sprints network but Sprint devices if course get priority. My roommate has an epic touch 4g phone and a combo Sprint 3g / 4g usb modem. She gets the same data rates as I do throughout the home and at the bus stop. I pay $35 a month for service. She pays about $70 for each device. Her phone has no modifications, mine does. It runs cm7 via an iho distro. I understand that coverage isn't going to deliver maximum data speeds everywhere but we should at least receive 250 kbps minimum in decent conditions anywhere there is supported coverage. We easily get 2mbps (2000kbps for those lost at this point) or higher downtown and along many parts of Gratiot. Sprint, please upgrade the service in the area. People will start switching to virgin mobile and boost (also on sprints network) to get crappy service at a more affordable price.

Verizon
Having very poor internet connection starting mid-morning through evening. In early morning hours it's OK. Signal strength looks good though. Perhaps they do not have enough capacity to handle intenet connections.

Sprint
Terrible reception, no more than 2 bars anywhere I go, no 3g at work and my battery dies in less than 10hrs from searching for signal (lasts for days elsewhere). Sprint representatives said that they could not confirm my problem even after dropping a call with a manager, who did not call back. They will not acknowledge my issues or allow me to terminate my service without a fee. Don't even consider getting Sprint if you live in the detroit area.

AT&T
Excellent signal strength. AT&T works great inside the building, while all other carriers seem to be weak. Now why can't I find a carrier that works for me and my kids - in NYC and at Wayne State campus?

Sprint
Had to get an Airave to get reception in my house. Even that sucks. It only works if you're within 10 feet using a 14Mbps ethernet connection. Also, where the heck is the 4G promised in the first quarter 2011? I'm paying $30 per month for three 4G phones and no 4G service. What a ripoff! Sprint better get its act together fast or I'm switching to Verizon. At least they have 4G.

Sprint
Never more than 2-3 bars, even outside. Calls sometime drop constantly, sometimes go for a long time. Lately afternoon callers report that they can't call me or even leave a message. Seems that local system may be over capacity.

Outside the house the signal is Below Average. In side the house I experience dropped calls. I've had this experience with many phones. I've used phones from LG, Motorola, Samsung and HTC, all with similar experiences.

Verizon
Lots of dropped calls recently, mostly in Redford and Livonia but also sometimes in Warren. Many calls, no answers. How can they claim to fix a problem if they can't tell you what the problem is? Seems like the quality of service and politeness at their stores has dropped badly in the last 6 months. very unfriendly, curt and snooty. Like they're doing you a favor or your intruding on their day. The Livonia store at Plymouth / Middlebelt is particularly bad. Staff are clueless and curt and very few even know how to work their own computer screens. Pitiful. I will be leaving as soon as possible. Don L., Redford

T-Mobile
I work in the Southfield Town Center, and my T-Mobile 3G reception is spotty here at best. It's tempermental, and reception changes with time of day and where I put the phone on my desk. It's definitely below satisfactory. On the other hand, it works fine at my home in Wyandotte.

Little to no signal indoors, have to go outside to get 2 bars to use phone. Updated via *228 with no improvement. Signal spotty but usually can talk as long as I'm outside.
