great reception, no drop calls, always have 5 bars, even around medical center. Maybe I just have a great phone with a really good antenna.

Sprint is the worst cell provider in Houston by far. Not only they deliver voice mail sporadically, at best, they will tell stories of how they are expanding in Houston and that reception in your area is going to be great. They are the cheapest among all, but what good does it do if it doesn't work? Even with the phone with a much better than the spec parameters - Sanyo 4900. Other phones hrdly worked at all.

GSM reception on this phone is good in the area. However, if I try a Motorola E398 that is set for 1900mhz, it catches AT&T instead and reception is quite poor.

dead zone despite all sorts of Sprint towers in the area

Reception is sproadic at best even though they claim to have towers all around the area. Even the new Sprint PCS Store at loop 610 and Shepperd has difficulty with reception. The Manager is the most vocal about the problem, seconded by the Tech Reps. The Sales staff tells customers that Sprint is not going to change anything further. Question is "What did they change before?" I'm a long time Sprint customer and the service in the past 8 months has deteroiated substantially. Twice in the past 2 days, someone almost got hurt when the Sprint reliability factor was inviked and the phones went to Drop Dead Status. Sorry Sprint, a lot of us complained and you don't want to fix the problem. Time for a change

At home, my service ALWAYS drops off after about 30-40 minutes. It's like there is some allocation of signal strength and when reached, the phone drops to no signal and the call ends. After a few seconds, the signal surges back to 3 / 4 bars. Same thing happens downtown. This has happened with AT&T and now Cingular.
