AT&T

Every call I make breaks up so badly that either I, or the person I'm talking to are constantly asking to repeat ourselves. It drops often, but the worst part is the reception is so downright awful, that every sentence loses a word or two. It's as if I said "this phone sucks ass, I'd rather not have it at all", and you hear, thi ph-ne su ss, I'd ra--r not ha at --lll" I own a very expensive top of the line a year ago Sony Ericsson and I've never had such bad reception on any phone. Whether it's the phone or the service (cingular) I don't know, but I'm am extremely displeased. Cingular customer service blows, they just make lame excuses as if I'm the only one instead or working to rectify the situation.

Ever since the Cingular AT&T acquisition my phone reception in Austin 183 corridor has become horrible. The performance of Cingular borders on the criminal and they better get their act together.

I can't even get good reception inside my house, if I want to make an important call "say for an interview" I have to go outside, because it breaks up and there's so much static. T-Mobile however, works perfectly fine and clear in this area and even inside my house.

I cannot use my cell phone, no sending or receiving at home in Cedar Park. Get 4 to 5 bars but no calling area. I basically have a $50 a month useless object. Once I pass the Austin city limit sign on 183 North my phone is dead even with 4 bars. No usage at all. I have called Verizon more than a dozen times to no avail, all I get is double talk. Verizon response is that for some reason my phone is picking up the Cingular tower and that is why my phone analogs all day long. They cant seem to fix anything. I'm glad I signed only a 1 year contract when I moved to Austin.

Had perfect reception with AT&T but switching to Cingular it's awful. I lose signal driving down Mopac these days. I am willing to cancel my contract but I am scared I'llchoose the wrong provider and then I'll be stuck in the same position I am in now.

Had Sprint in Austin for 8 years now and now I see why Sanyo is #1 in JD Power for reception. I only drop calls in Barton Creek Mall on the lower level. I sell three providers and Sprint has the best reception, BUT, have your phone software updated once and a while and use Sanyo. Stay away from Samsung and LG on Sprint with the exception of the Samsung A-900. Sanyo is still who I suggest.

Cingular reception in my home is never more than 2 bars, outside it is 2-3. Every conversation has at least one disconnect if talk is longer than 30-45 seconds. At work, near Zilker (5th floor office), reception is always great. Lots of drop outs on Mopac between Zilker and 183. I travel in and out of state; reception has been at least as good as Austin's in most cities. I switched from Sprint two years ago thinking Cingular must be better... I am not so sure about that! Coverage area is better, but with constant drop outs and waivering signal strength it doesn't matter. Cingular customer service has been friendly, but incompetent... suggest avoiding bill consolidation with ATT / broadband. Also, I'll never own another Motorola phone.

I have been with Sprint for about 8 years and have lived in this area the whole time. My reception has always been average to above average and has improved over the years. I have pratically never had a dropped call, nor have I missed any and I work from home a lot. I made a decision on OVERALL coverage in TX and in the US to go with Sprint years ago and they are only getting better. It seems to me that Sprint is one company that is really working on improving their network, so it is only going to get better. As with any service, the handset you use can have an effect also.

Poor reception all over NW Hills and especially at my house. Apparently no carrier can cover my home as I've had friends on just about every network try with no success.

But also NO reception al lot of the time inside my apartment. My phone seems to work around town but as soon as I want to turn into my apt complex it starts gargling and drops the calls. I feel lucky when I am home and a call goes through. I get a lot of messages pop up on my phone like "No Network Coverage" and "Network Busy". My bars will jump around from 3 to 1 to 0. If I'm making a call, its usually shoots to 1 bar to 0 real fast. I have trouble receiving all my calls as well. I want OUT of my contract. I bind myself to them in a contract for 2 years, but ironically they cannot gaurantee service indoors or outdoors. Oh yeah and their customer service dept SUCKS!
