Sprint

I have to stay very still out in the middle of the street to use my phone - it's very frustrating - as I hold my breath waiting for the call to drop - tenses my neck up. One note: my wife has an older model phone(samsung dual-band tri mode SPHA660) with the typical type of external retractable antennae - and hers gets reasonable reception. vs. my phone (LG I think) with a smooth outside, no antennae that sticks up. I don't have it with me right now or would post the model. This proves one thing in fringe reception areas, the phone you choose can matter. Anywhere else in Austin, my phone works great.

We live on Red Bud Trail about a mile up from West Lake Dr.and consistently have 4 or 5 Bars... . I do lose my signal on West Lake Dr.from time to time in between Red Bud and Bee Caves Road. And I always lose it on Red Bud Trail winding along the rim of the canyon. Otherwise, I have great coverage in this part of town.

I work in the real estate markets of SW Austin and Sprint is the worst. Dropped call after dropped call out of my house. From reading these other boards, I would think you to be an idiot if you are south of the city and have Sprint.

No matter how many bars my phone tells me I have, when I'm in Austin, and sitting in my own house especially, my phone just drops. It often takes 4-5 phone calls to finish a conversation. The service is ridiculous.

My home is a black hole. I only have signal upstairs to use my phone. Regardless, callers report daily busy signals and "subscriber not in service" message when I'm not even on the phone. Calls end midsentence and my caller reports getting these responses when trying to reconnect. Outgoing calls take a ling time to start to ring, including checking voicemail. Outgoing text messages often require retrys to succeed. Incoming messages often delayed by 20 minutes. The voice quality is also incredibly bad. It's bad enough that I'll probably quit T-Mobile if they don't respond to my recent letter. This is a 'denial of service' situation and I don't care about my credit report, so they can forget the termination fee.

Drops offs are common. Reception is minimal and sometimes not at all.

I loved Sprint in Tennessee and in Waco---but in Dallas and Austin the service in terrible--I can't take a call without dropping it!

So there is an ice storm outside and the Cricket employees haven't showed up for work and I can not pay my bill and it is due and when I call customer service they can't help me but will charge a $65 reconnect fee because there is no one at the store to take my money today, but they will charge me later. how ya like them apples?

Those people are on fire, for $35 or $45 I get to call anywhere anytime. Since they started providing service in austin and san antonio in august of 2006, the whole neighborhood is going Cricket. GO CRICKET.

Cingular signal in Hyde Park area is poor to unusable. Usually one or two bars, but often "No Service." Same problem in the vicinity of Far West and Mesa. Yes, my phone is old technology; however, my next door neighbor has latest technology Cingular service and equipment but suffers the same problems with weak or no signal. Stinks! Regardless, I can't imagine life without it these days, even if it is Cingular. Communication by cell phone is still a comparatively new innovation. It'll get better... the sooner the better!
