Only have 3 bars and sometime 2 bars in my home. Calls are not clear and sometimes are dropped. Often very difficult to understand what is being said.

3 Out of 5 (3 stars) | Riverview at Dobson | University / Alma School, Mesa, AZ 85201 |

Coming from AT&T I expected more from Verizon. At my home I get full bars and great service. By riverview on dobson, I consistently get 2 bars, at 24 hour fitness I get 1 bar, fry food, 2 bars. For all the hype on their commercials I am not impressed with Verizon and actually better coverage on ATT, which surprises me but facts are facts.

T-Mobile

2 Out of 5 (2 stars) | Thomas and 101 | Hayden and Thomas, Scottsdale, AZ 85251 |

Dropped calls all the time and slow downloads. I would never watch a movie using Netflix because 4G is slow. I haven't read any good reviews for other carriers either so I guess bad is better than awful.

After recently moving here from Atlanta GA, I noticed I had been dropping calls, but this started with a few a day to an unbelievably 6-10 calls per day. After doing some research on cellular towers in the surrounding area of Phoenix I found that Sprint does not have many which may very well be the main issue. My wife would say my phone is fine, but now as of today she has been dropping calls left and right as well. So now we are thinking about switching to TMobile because from people we know here and the reviews I have read they get really good signal here. An added bonus is they also pay your termination fees, if you join and they offer an unlimited everything plan something we were used to with Sprint. I am def going to switch Sprint really sucks here in Phoenix. I was in Sierra Vista AZ and had no problems and that is a military town and they barely have radio stations.

T-Mobile

Great for a home phone service. Unfortunately works requires a mobile phone and Pinal County is zero data coverage (AJ, San Tan Valley, Maricopa, and I already knew the low population density desert like Bisbee is no chance). The caveat, Tombstone has the best coverage for 4G data I have seen. So Wyatt Earp is covered. Too bad he is already buried in L.A. To the comment of living in the middle of nowhere, Ocotillo and Dobson are far from low cost of living.

I was thinking of switching to T-Mobile to save money, but after talking to T-Mobile users, reading reviews and now reviewing this site and coverage areas... I am staying with Verizon, I love Verizon coverage, WORKS EVERY WHERE! Customer service has always been oustanding and the only place I have ever dropped a call is on the 51 just north of northern when going through the mountains..I am glad I researched comments, thanks everyone for posting, it really helped me make my decision;-)

Sprint

I have had Sprint since it was Nextel. There are a few drop spots, but all in all my service is very good. We now have 4G so I am happy. I wish Sprint service was a little better up on the Rim, but I'm sure it will be in time. Sprint users... Don't give up hope! Their service is getting better all the time and we have unlimited data on the phone for the best price around.. No complaints there!

Sprint is very spotty in this area and while usable - dropped calls are frequent and certain areas of your house will have "okay" signal while others won't.

We've had excellent service until a couple of months ago, then went to fair. Then past week, absolutely no cell reception. Sprint office on Queen Creek and Alma School said they've had many complaints from Sun Lakes. I first got the "pat" answer of changing from 3G to 4G that I've heard for several months. When I said it had gone to NO service (texts still work cuz it feeds off wifi) and we would have to change providers, they said they would send an engineer to tower and provide us with air tower since my husband is required by work to have a cell phone (we have no land line cuz we never needed it before). They said to give them 72 hrs to diagnose. We'll see.

Absolutely no reception in or outside.. Coverage is very spotty and laughable when I'm getting it.. Had to resort to an airave after months of calling in... Avoid Sprint at all costs. You're better off paying more for service you'll actually get elsewhere!

Very poor reception in my home with Sprint -- continually drops calls, conversations fade in and out. Was told when I started with Sprint that reception was good in my area and that they were upgrading the towers in my area; that was 1-1 / 2 years ago. From what I've read and been told, Sprint has been lying about their upgrades and switching to 4G for years. I have filed complaints with FCC and BBB but to no avail. Sprint is unwilling to admit responsibility for the lack of service and unwilling to provide any solution. Sprint continually maintains that my problems stem from my device which is an IPhone, although they can not explain, if it is my device, why it works elsewhere. When I originally went to the Sprint store to complain about my home service I was told by the the manager to "buy a new home."

verizon rocks in phoenix. Metal framed buildings kill tmobile's weak phoenix coverage. no sweat for verizon. Went to the VA hospital with my dad in the Oregon / washington area. Had great reception in the hospital and in an elevator. Their prepaid / no contract business model is lame, but they have reception and call quality in my area figured out.

AT&T

4 Out of 5 (4 stars) | 40th St. | Baseline, Phoenix, AZ 85040 |

I am a very experienced in mobile telephony technology and used to test mobile phones (on all major carriers) as well as variious networks for prominent online websites. In the past year, I have moved to the area from the midwest in the past year. While overall coverage in Phoenix is not as good in some other major metropolitan areas, I have found that calls and tests in the greater metropolitan area of Phoenix to be very good with AT&T. Data services on LTE work well when outdoors, but due LTE's frequency, data services can be mixed in indoors. HSPA(+) services work have better building penetration and work much better overall in the area. Using a variety of test methods, I have found AT&Ts signal overall to be quite good, with Verizon's coming in a close second and T-Mobiles to be quite good as well. My test set indicates rather poor performance for Sprint in certain areas and with poor data connectivity throughout the valley.

Sprint

3 Out of 5 (3 stars) | McQueen | Warner, Gilbert, AZ 85233 |

My service is okay over in Gilbert but very slow. When I lived in Scottsdale I could not even hold a call. I have the airwave they send out and it does work however, not compatible with all internet modems. Currently wont work with Centurylink. The price and plans are GREAT but I cant handle the undepenable service any longer. I am starting to think you do get what you pay for. Verizon here I come.

T-Mobile

Works fine with 5 bar LTE coverage Galaxy Note 2 in most of the Valley but at home I struggle to get 1-2 bars 4g non-lte and wifi does better for data at home. Probably intel plant behind my house is to blame because it can cause interference. Still worth the money. But I can still receive calls and keep the conversation at home without a dropped call ever so at least the most critical function of the phone is trouble-free. No dropped calls yet. T-Mobile rules.

For the first two months of service with Sprint my phone worked perfectly with great coverage.( after regretfully leaving verizon) I am losing calls, not able to send text messages or use my pandora on my smart phone. I wish I stayed with verizon. this is ridiculous being in a large city and not having coverage to make 1 call without it being dropped.

Verizon

1 Out of 5 (1 star) | Guadalupe | McClintock, Tempe, AZ 85283 |

I've been a Verizon customer for about 12 years. The service finally degraded to the point that I had wildly fluctuating "bars" and voice calls going in and out. This occurred for both of our phones, in and out of the house. Verizon first failed to follow up (techs not returning calls), then gave poor instructions (Mark 5-8 calls, then wait for us to call you back, when the system then "dropped" my ticket as I wasn't marking any more calls.) Then told it was SIM card (no, both our phones). Finally Verizon admits I am in a "marginal service area" that is getting worse because of lots of new customers. They MAY improve service in a year (how unspecified.) I was told to get a new piece of equipment so I could get my voice calls over the internet (yet continue to pay Verizon for service they can't provide.) FINALLY they admit I can leave Verizon without any penalty (contract fee)-- we'll see. I am told to "find another provider that works better" and switch. Of course, one can't know if the service is better until the change is made-- it could be worse, right? Any thoughts on a better provider in my area?

Dorms have no reception for ATT customers, however those with Verizon have full service. Spoke with several reps. Told it was my sim card. Not. But what is their excuse for the other people in our dorm using ATT who also don't have reception? Also, told microcells would not help. Very frustrated. Brought a prepaid Verizon to use.
