Alltel

Great reception in or out of the house. Never lost a call. I have had Verizon and Qwest with all kinds of problems. The phone is great.

Switched to Verizon and bought 5 phones for the family cuz everyone raved, but we get no reception if we stray 6 feet from my couch at the window. Had no reception problems with Alltel and TMobile. We have no home phone so this is a major problem - it will cause us to relocate. Oh yeah - Digitell told us that Verizon would let us out of our contract if we had poor reception at home. Not true. But not much of what they told us was.

My girlfriend and I got on a Cingular plan hoping to save minutes talking to each other. But, as we are quickly finding out, our conversations are cut short because of reception. She lives directly across the street from the Cingular store we went to and she never gets more than 2 bars, at most. I live 4 miles away from her and cannot talk on it in my house. In order for me to carry on a conversation for more than 2 minutes I have to go outside. I went to a friend's house in Arrowhead and had no reception at all the entire time. Not one bar. My girlfriend is extremely upset with this and support doesn't have much to say other than there are mountains around the valley that can cause interruptions. Hmmm... ..

Reception is great wherever I go. I've never dropped a call, and only very rarely will I notice any static or distortion. I want to stop paying for my landline I never use, but the wife won't let me.

I started with T-Mobile.. didn't work in my house. So I switched to Cingular last week. Do not get Cingular. They said they were "putting up more towers" and to wait. But I got out of my contract (I was still within my 30 days). I switched to Verizon and it works great! The sound wasn't as crystal clear as GSM, but full bars indoor and out. That's more important to me than cd-quality sound. Even at work (Kyrene and Ray). No more dropped calls. If you are looking for a carrier, I recommend Verizon. And I've only been a customer for a few days. Also, the people who helped me sign up were SO nice. It was the best experience I've had (and I've had all the major carriers) - Best service (in my own opinion) and best coverage. STAY AWAY FROM CINGULAR. And, if you just signed up with them, and you live in the east valley - my recommendation is to switch to Verizon or sprint. And I have friends who are trapped in their contracts who would agree.

Verizon is real spotty out in the Boulder Mountain area in NE Mesa, but so is everyone else except T-Mobile oddly enough. Just saw cell antennas being fitted on a flag pole about a mile away so hopefully service improves soon.

AT&T GSM sucks! I switched to AT&T from Sprint because 1>SPRINT reception was poor and 2> I was traveling internationally and AT&T phones work out-of-the-box in foreign countries. The second happened to be true. The first, however, has turned out to be a nightmare! Horrible reception! Dropped calls almost everywhere in the valley! I have heard from someone who had a Tracfone how well it works ALMOST EVERYWHERE in the valley. Guess who powers Tracfone network? ALLTEL! I am now thinking of switching to Alltel even if it means I have to buy 3 phones (for the family) and pay AT&T a couple of hundred bucks to cancel the contract!

Several of my friends an I have Verizon phones and live in the same general area. Our calls SE of McClintock and Southern are constantly being dropped at our houses. Hardly can keep a call inside nearby Target. We all called Verizon and they claimed to have went to the area and found no problems. Obviously they did not look hard because we drop calls almost every single time in that area, especially within our homes.

Don't get T-Mobile service - Drops call consistently along 101. Hardly can make calls from home. Receiving them is tough. How can service be that terrible? They must work hard at it.

East Valley signal strength is no existent. I see "Emergency Only" or "No Service" far more than I see even one bar. I-60 corridor from Power to 87 has a lot of spots where signal is non existent. Guadalupe is worse for same grid. If I get a signal, call drops within a few minutes every time or phone locks up where I am sure I am being billed but the connection is dead and have to power the phone off. Co-worker has Cingular, different phone, same terrible reception. My phone is nothing more than an expensive paperweight.
