AT&T Wireless (TDMA)
Biggest drop zones for me. What a headach. I'm bitting the dust too and switching. Going to look into next company better.

AT&T is awful in this and surrounding area of Los Feliz and Silverlake. I use to get reception in my apartment (approx. 2 1/2 years ago) but now if I'm luck 1-2 bars. The convinced me to change phones from Nokia model to another Nokia saying "maybe your phone is old and is the reason." Got the new phone, wasn't the reason. I tried GSM and found more drop zones throughout L.A. Waiting for contract to end this month and moving on probably to Verizon.

This message is to try to encourage people to subscribe with AT&T GSM. It is the perfect way to stay intouch with your friends and the reception is fantastic everywhere I go and I travel a lot all through the southern states of America. Trust me it truly works the best.

If you live in SoCal and ATT Wireless just sucks period. I had to come outside of my apartment building just to use the phone and it would drop calls every 15 mins or so.

Cingular says the reception in Silver Lake is "foggy" and I have to say, Silver Lake seems to be the Bermuda Triangle of cell phone reception. I'll dial my cell phone and it'll say "no coverage" when just a few seconds ago standing in the exact same place, it was working fine. Additionally, I used to have a Nokia 6200 (one of the best) which had great reception, and now I have a Nokia 3100 which has bad reception and compounds the Silver Lake fog effect.

Exceptional service all around LA since a few months ago with ATTWS GSM. I get reception three floors underground in parking garages and experience no dropped calles anywhere. I've hit deadspots (Eagle Rock and interior apartments in my building) but they are few and far between. I get 6 or 7 bars out of 7 nearly everywhere. My phone model, known for its signal strentgh, may have a little to do with it but up until 6-9 months ago GSM coverage was poor at best.

I am about to switch from AT&T Wireless because I can almost never get a signal on my Nokia when I'm in my house or around it. I live in the Los Feliz hills north of Los Feliz Blvd., and I'm lucky when I get 1 bar. In my house (50s ranch style, mostly wood and glass), I sometimes get no reception. My wife's Sprint PCS phone (Samsung smartphone) gets WAY better reception. AT&T customer service has been fine, BTW. It's just that their coverage for my area is terrible, so I'm going to switch.

I had AT&T contract for several years (Started with L.A. Cellular). I live in Koreatown. With AT&T, reception was non-existent. Using my phone in my home was impossible. I assumed it was the buildings construction that blocked the signal. It was actually AT&T's lack of coverage in the LA Civic Center. I switched to T-Mobile a year and a half ago. Reception with T-Mobile has been pretty excellent. They must have a lot of towers in the Wilshire area.

AT&T TDMA reception in the area is spotty. AT&T told me their GSM would be way better. Wrong. Way worse. Once they merged with Cingular, it became worse still. Driving around LA and OC I drop calls about every two minutes. Customer service claims no one else is having similar problems in LA. Ha! AT&T has also given me conflicting stories about my phone's compatibility with their GSM network. They gave me the phone for use on their network; it should be compatible with it! TDMA users with old Nokias I know are still getting decent reception and far fewer dropped calls. I will change providers as soon as my contract is up.

T-Mobile coverage seems to go in and out in and near my house. I've been a subscriber for about 18 months and there has been no improvement in coverage. Looking to switch to AT&T / Cingular now that they are merging networks.
