T-Mobile
Reception seems to change with in the same room with most companies and phones, so I'm not sure one can extrapolate this to represent a total experienes. However, GSM systems (Cingular / T-Mobile) tend not to have as good of reception as CDMA / TDMA (Sprint / Verizon) systems. Their 'tracking' seems more consistent. For calling / going overseas and for the ease of a SIM card which stores call info, I still prefer GSM service. There will always be sketchy spots.

Calls drop inside or outside my building. Sometimes no reception at all or calls go to voicemail right away.

I live in Long Beach but travel hundreds of miles each week all over LA and Orange county for work. I am constantly on the phone in the car, and only rarely do I get dropped. When I first signed up with them 5 years ago I lived in Laguna Niguel, and the reception was poor because of all of the canyons, but 2 weeks later they put up new towers and it was perfect. As for customer service... well, that is another story, but most companies are a pain to deal with from what I hear. If reception is your main concern, switch to Sprint!

The LG 1300 phone from Cingular gets little reception ANYWHERE..it cuts off calls and says "emergency only" for about 30% of the time the phone is on.

Always have outstanding reception with Verizon at home and most places in LA. I almost never experience dropped calls or other reception or connectivity issues. This is also the case in the other Metro-areas I frequent (NY, SF, Detroit)

In my house, by the Bolsa Chica wetlands, there is only 1 bar showing... on a good day.

Usually one bar. If I take it in the bathroom with me goes completly out of reception.

Used to have great reception with AT&T. Since Cingular took over, I have noticed a steady decline in reception. Calls drop very frequently now, and I never used to drop them berfore. I used to be able to make calls within my house; now I have no signal. Time to switch carriers. Cingular is pretty bad.

Reception is very sketchy. Sometimes you're good, sometimes you're not.
