AT&T

On average poor to below average. I say that reversed because most of the time I'm at poor. May have something to do with the airport being two blocks away.

The only time I got reception in the grocery store was when standing next to the meat aisle. There is poor reception in the plaza outdoors. Very shoddy service in this area... I often leave a store and receive several voicemails from people trying to reach me.

Reception is intermittent and poor along Rosecrans coming East from the 110 Freeway. Halfway between Avalon Blvd.and Central Ave. along Rosecrans the signal is poor and not dependable. The is a large cell tower two block away just north of Rosecrans Ave. and Central Ave. but apparently Cingular doesn't use it.

Good reception here. Wish there was a wider area of reception for T-Mobile. My son is in the mountains right now and those with Cingular and Verizon get reception while he does not. Still, I'm happy with T-Mobile overall.

Like other reviewers, I would sat that reception in the Long Beach, Signal Hill area is terrible. Service with ATT was o.k. but Cinguar is a waste of money. A million free rollover minutes won't do you any good in this area. My Nokia (I've had 2and a Motorola) is a paperweight. Good thing the Nokia is supplied by work. (No one can ever reach me!) My personal carrier is Verizon (LG VX600). It isn't perfect, but I pay for this one and I'll stick with them.

Reception seems to change with in the same room with most companies and phones, so I'm not sure one can extrapolate this to represent a total experienes. However, GSM systems (Cingular / T-Mobile) tend not to have as good of reception as CDMA / TDMA (Sprint / Verizon) systems. Their 'tracking' seems more consistent. For calling / going overseas and for the ease of a SIM card which stores call info, I still prefer GSM service. There will always be sketchy spots.

Calls drop inside or outside my building. Sometimes no reception at all or calls go to voicemail right away.

I live in Long Beach but travel hundreds of miles each week all over LA and Orange county for work. I am constantly on the phone in the car, and only rarely do I get dropped. When I first signed up with them 5 years ago I lived in Laguna Niguel, and the reception was poor because of all of the canyons, but 2 weeks later they put up new towers and it was perfect. As for customer service... well, that is another story, but most companies are a pain to deal with from what I hear. If reception is your main concern, switch to Sprint!
