Virgin, owned by Sprint, is just so poor in this intersection. Get's better at Roscoe and Woodley by the Kaiser.

Horrible reception. The calls break up constantly, the other person cannot hear you and vice versa. I cannot get reception inside my house. The call will consistently drop after a few minutes.

1 Out of 5 (1 star) | Near Braemar Country Club | Reseda and Winford Dr., Tarzana, CA 91356 |

no reception from AT&T for Tarzana area near Braemar Country club. Purchased and AT&T microcell for home use. Signal has improved but drop calls and call qualities are still hit and miss.

AT&T

1 Out of 5 (1 star) | Scott Rd. | Glen Oaks, Burbank, CA 91504 |

Since August 20th all my calls have been dropping. If I get a call I can hear them they can't hear me. If I call them they hear static or nothing at all. If I'm lucky enough to get 2 bars and actually have a call it drops after 49 seconds. If I drive away from the house I've had a few calls last for 4 minutes before dropping. Texting works OK so far. I've called multiple times, CSR tells me work is being done on the cell tower, should be fixed tomorrow. CSR center even texts me that the problem has been fixed but I still don't have service as of today September 7, 2011. I went to the ATT store where I got a snarky reception from the clerk who declared it's my phone without even checking it. I asked her to at least hold my phone and do some kind of diagnostic to see if it's the phone. She told me the ATT store doesn't do that, go to an Apple service center. She looked up something on the screen - all towers are working so it must be me. What BS! I'm on hold with 611 right now - oops - they can't hear me!

Virgin Mobile

Since the 1st of September no one with a Sprint, Boost, or Virgin Mobile(Boost and Virgin use Sprint towers) phone has been able to get good reception in Sylmar lately. Anyone know why? I live up by Veteran's Park and manage to get a bar or two, if I don't touch the phone or if I go outside. Still getting many dropped calls and no texts or data which sucks! (I tether my cell for internet since we recently cancelled our internet service). At the college the reception is worse. Most of the time I have an X or 1 bar, but that is not enough to send my sister a text to pick me up from school. What sucks the most is that 4 out of the 5 cells in our house are phones that use Sprint towers. Plus we have no landline anymore. I was previously with Verizon for 4 years and reception was really bad here and where I used to live (High Desert). I have only been with Virgin / Sprint for a bit less than a year and these past 8 mos. I had perfect reception. My 3g was faster than the high-speed internet we had in most cases. But this month it has been really bad. I am starting to consider getting another phone unless Sprint fixes this problem. It's really annoying going around in circles all over the school not being able to locate my ride who also can't get a hold of me and they can't stay in one place too long because of the traffic of incoming / outgoing students, drop-offs / pick-ups. For now I guess it's back to post-it reminders on the fridge for location and pick up time. The only upside is no telemarketers. (somehow they got my cell number)

Nextel

4 Out of 5 (4 stars) | Ventura Blvd. | Vineland Ave., Studio City, CA 91604 |

For almost a week now, any attempted calls from this area has resulted in a "Call Failed: Please Try Again 26" error, and calls made to my phone have gone straight to voice-mail. Data (text, internet) and Walkie-Talkie seem to be unaffected. Reception has been fine (anywhere from 3-5 bars) but phone calls have NOT been possible.

5 out 5 bars on T-Mobile. Works great! Tried Sprint and it was impossible to maintain connectivity. Friends with AT&T and Verizon were were 3 to 5 bars. Hate to see T-Mobile disappear into AT&T.

Sprint

I switched to Sprint almost one year ago, since switching I have extremely poor coverage in my home. I am forced to use a land line resulting from dropped calls. My phone jumps in and out of a roaming mode, and even then I have dropped calls, and delayed text messaging. I am very disappointed in Sprint.

Sprint

1 Out of 5 (1 star) | 5848 Woodman | Woodman and Oxnard, Van Nuys, CA 91401 |

When Sprint first launched the 4g in my area it was great and I had full bars, Now it drops back to 3g. And the 3g in the area is really bad too. My 4g reads "poor" and is useless for data now. I have also notice in my travels that 4g is not available in most areas still and if it is, it's real slow and will hang.Let it be noted that I have a Sprint cell site a few blocks away. I wonder if Sprint is throttling back the data, It seems that way to me.

Verizon

1 Out of 5 (1 star) | Roscoe | Hayvenhurst, Van Nuys, CA 91406 |

I don't know if it has to do with the iPhone, but ever since the iPhone came to Verizon, the cell reception in this area has gotten progressively worse! I work about 1 mile away from the Van Nuys airport, and have been getting consistently dropped calls almost every phone call I make. Imagine having to make important calls to doctor's offices, utilities, financial institutions, etc only to have to call drop in the middle of the conversation. I have called Verizon at least 15 times the last 4 months complaining about this, and all they tell me to do is call Tech Support or update my phone (which I've done). I know for sure it is Verizon's cell service because my co-workers who used to have Verizon and had various phones ALL had the same issue. Only when they switched to other carriers, including crappy AT&T, did the issue stop. I know for sure it is something with this specific area around the Van Nuys area since the reception at my home (Encino) is completely fine. Verizon does nothing but makes excuses for their shoddy service claiming that their towers are fine. If it were not for the ETF I would've jumped ship right now. Come April, I'm leaving Verizon for good.
