Nextel

Had problems in the past, but not lately but I don't use it a lot.

Live in an apartment complex and there is NO reception at all. Very frustrating. I have to divert all my calls to my landline.

I switched over to Sprint from Cellular, and I get great reception here! Even though I only get 2 bars inside my house, that was a heck of a lot better than my old phone with Cingular, and I can now call from indoors. So I'm very happy with this phone -- however, I advise anyone who wishes to do the same to be careful when switching over before your old 1- or 2-year contract expires. Apparently, I switched over with about 3 weeks left on my Cingular contract, and like a woman scorned, Cingular unleashed their fury and charged me $300 as a penalty (I had 2 lines). But I didn't care, I can now call from inside my house!

AT&T GSM service that was taken over by Cingular. I get little to no reception. Looking at the Tower map, there are no towers in the area -- and this is right off the fwy!

my phone wont work inside my bedroom, or kitchen, but I get 1 bar in my living room. For some reason it works better in the early morning (like 12am-5am), not sure why that is. the phone is half-decent when you are outside but drops calls at least 2-5 times a day. I am very unhappy with cingular, and their customer service is bad too. I will be switching soon, probably to t-mible ebcause I don't think I will be approved for sprint. I am glad I found this website.

I get 1 bar when I am outdoors almost anywhere in Van Nuys. I get 0 bars inside of my apartment. I literally had to stand on the toilet in the bathroom and lean towards a window near the ceiling just to answer my phone. That helped, but it always would die in a matter of minutes or seconds. Even just stepping outside the door of my apartment did not help. I would have to walk about 50 yards down the road until my phone would give me service. It frequently would die even being out and about driving in the area. It also would not work well in other areas, like downtown LA, under any bridge, Hollywood. Half the time it never rang, it just went straight to voicemail. I hate Cingular for this area. I even tried a $370 phone out for a week (later returning it) to see if that would make a difference over my cheap-o free phone, and NO it did not make even the tiniest bit of difference. Booooo to Cingular.

I had At&T until they merged into Cingular, and was promised that my service, which had been fine until the merger, would soon be restored by Cingular, and work better than ever with my new Cingular phone. Unfortunately, that couldn't be farther from the truth - I have been extremely unhappy with Cingular's service. Its spotty and erratic, the signal fades in and out, calls drop suddenly. The service is unpredictable, often to the point of absurdity. The bars go up and down so quickly from one second to the next that they're completely useless in indicating anything- even if you have 5 bars they can drop down to 1 at any moment. I've learned to rush my phone conversations because its almost always just a matter of time before the reception starts fading or the call drops. The signal is so volatile that it often takes several attempts before I can even make a call. I regularly get voicemail messages for calls I missed because my phone never rang. And the best part is the way the Cingular customer service people provide absolutely no assistance at all, lack any knowledge about anything, and act as though they've never heard a single complaint about their service at all. I am almost in disbelief at how bad my service with Cingular has been. I am cancelling my contract.

Drops calls between my office (in one part of the house) to the kitchen (20 feet away). I get a lot of complaints from the parties on the other end of the line that there is popping and crackling in their ear (presumably from my phone). This is my second Treo 650 (first was DOA). If it wasn't for the email access (great), I'd dump it and go back to... ah heck, I haven't heard anyone with *good* reception in the SFV. Hey Sprint, want to capture more market-share? Put up a frickin' tower in the central SFV! Also, the Sprint Store on Ventura near Coldwater Canyon in Studio City has the SLOWEST service, quite possibly in the history of the earth (okay, at least since humans have been here). I've spent about 3.5 hours in that store... and I've only been there twice! They seem to have plenty of people working there, but it's still a long wait.

Reception is good in open areas of Pacoima. Go into the residential areas and it suffers for below avg / poor. Phones do make a difference, I had an old Motorola prior to the Samsung and reception got much better.
