Verizon

Very bad reception at my house in the canyon. Bummer I can't often use my own cell phone at home.

Only 1 bar (sometimes 0 bars) of reception in my building. When I am fortunate enough to have a call go through, it is almost always guaranteed to be dropped. Verizon claims there is a tower less than 50 yards away and can't explain the lack of reception (they say it is probably a 'line of sight' issue but can't be certain). All of my friends with Verizon have the same problem in the building (which leads me to believe its not my handset). Interestingly Cingular customers get great service in this area... .go figure!

5 bars of reception but I get a 15 second audio glitch every minute or two that makes the caller at the other end sound like they are at the end of a long coiled metal tube. Makes the person on the other end completely unintelligible. People on the other end of the call have identified similar sounding things. This might be my phone equipment. I've gotten a replacement phone (with no change in call quality) and am going to swap out my SIM card today. Anyone else with such a problem? I don't have this issue in other areas of San Diego or in other cities. Problems started around 2006 / 02 / 01 and persist in this area.

Can make a call without dropping only by standing in the middle of the street. Doesn't work at all in the house. My Sprint phone is slightly better. The consensus on the block is that Verizon is the only carrier that works acceptably.

I would have to wave my phone around (in the air!) to send ONE text message, and sometimes it tells me that it has "failed" to send my message. I too can't wait for my contract to end. It works well elsewhere but home.

Service sucks STILL all over Mt Soledad from Verizon, but their service stinks anyway (customer that is). Don't know where to turn... most cell cos. treat customers like dirt, knowing there's another sucker born every minute. Can't get service in the house but can on 5 sq.ft. of the driveway! Never more than 1 bar. Often drops THAT.

Im the only one who gets reception (and good too) at my apartment. My friends with Cingular, ATT, Sprint and TMobile get nothing when they come over! haha.

I never have problems with poor reception or dropped calls anywhere in the San Diego area, including inside my apartmentn by UTC and all around the UCSD campus.

It seems to go in cycles of good reception for a week or two, them crappy reception for a while. Sometimes you get Mexico. A couple of feet (in elevation) will make a big difference. Verizon works excellent for me everywhere in US (incl Ak and Hi) except my house. Have been on the phone with Verizon engineers for hours to no avail. Just have to remember, it's a radio, not a phone...

Sprint PCS basically sucks everywhere in San Diego. AVOID!
