AT&T
No reception on this street. I had to go around the corner to use phone. I switched to Sprint, which is still poor but better.

Great reception here. Have had good service with Verizon, except some hotspots like Orinda or on campus at UC Santa Cruz.

I've had Nextel for a couple years now. No problems at all in Noe Valley.

I have had Cingular, T-Mobile. AT&T (the worst), Nextel, Verizon (can you hear me? NO) and now I have Sprint PCS. Pretty much I've had a taste of all the phone carriers. So far Sprint has the BEST reception out of all of these carriers. I thought Verizon has the best network? I thought wrong... What is this "Can you hear me now?" They can hear me if I have tons of dropped calls from Verizon. AT&T? Oh man the worst. All I can say is Thank you Cingular for taking over. But all I can say is that Sprint has the best reception out of all.

I have a Nokia hand phone bought in Asia, so the GSM band is 900 / 1800 / 1900. With AT&T and Cingular sharing the same network now, I get reception almost everywhere. Very few dropped calls. It must be because of the upcoming merger. We will see if it stays that way.

I get spotty service at home and zero service in many bars and restaurants around here, even when in a window seat. Example: at Foreign Cinema last night, I couldn't get reception even when I went out onto the street for several minutes. I had to walk to the corner of Mission and 22 to get reception. The phone said "No Service" for several minutes even when three or four bars were appearing on the screen.

Great reception except when in elevator/lobby. Maybe being on the 7th floor helps too.

I will just add to the horrible reviews of AT&T's service. I have had AT&T for few years now, both in Boston and now in San Francisco. In both cities, I was unable to get any reception in my home, and each time I was told it was my equipment or that there must be some sort of interference. My phone would tell me I was roaming when I was in my "home" area, and then tell me I was home when I was in what I understood to be a roaming area. Needless to say, this resulted in overcharges that could not be explained to me, and to many very angry complaints from me. Dropped calls and tinny, echoing voices are also frequent problems. Most importantly, AT&T has the most miserable "customer service" I have ever dealt with from any type of service provider (notorious cable tv included!). My contract with AT&T is up, and I am porting my number today back to Verizon. Couldn't be happier!

I hate to pay the price, but my Verizon reception is really consistent in the Bay Area. I want to move to T-Mobile for the price differential, but these other reviews scare me. I drop in the same places - like under Sutro tower, but can't imagine any phone working well there. Great coverage - high price for the priviledge.

Signal indicator shows full coverage, but "no access" appears on screen. Cannot make or receive calls.
