MetroPCS

Can not make a call from in my apartment (3rd floor) or outside from the landing or balcony. Reception is bad in most places in San Mateo and Burlingame where I have tried to make or receive a call. Most calls fail, are dropped, or are of such poor quality as to be unintelligable so that I have to hang up. Plan to return the phone but MetroPCS rule on returning the phone is less than 30 days use and less that 1 HOUR of use... I have used my phone for 1 hr. 8 min. 47 sec. (this total usage was for 33 calls... ) This was my first cell phone. Have had the phone 8 days. This "service" has reaffirmed everything I thought was true about cell phones. I need to find a plan that will work on the Peninsula especially along the 101 corridor.

I used to get an OK coverage from Cingular until they merged with AT&T. What's up with that?

Poor reception in house. Best reception at T-Mobile hot points (e.g. Starbucks). T-Mobile customer supports has no solution.

Similar to my insurance companies, cell companies have the same power to collect high dollars for no service. The process (months) of working out a solution with Verizon is more costly in my time that opting out of my contract. My basic service is $59.99 for 900 hours, but the bill is never less than $70.00. They explain this as my use of roaming and 411. I would never question the bill, if I had any service anywhere on the Peninsula. I am afraid to answer my phone unless I have the time to pull off the road at the exact spot I receive reception. To make matters worse, pulling off the road at that point of reception does not mean the call won't be dropped. I would appreciate any suggestions on services that work in the Emerald Hills, Redwood City or Woodside areas. Thanks.

Great reception pretty much all of the time, but nothing in life is perfect. There is the occasional drop in my bars, but never by much. Overall, I'm very satisfied with the service in my area.

Sprint has nearly no service in Half Moon Bay, El Granada, Moss Beach or the rest of the San Mateo Coast. Their Customer "Service" will gladly tell you they do have service in this area. However, I had dozens of dropped calls in two weeks, no data service, and no voicemail until I left and went to 280 or San Francisco. If you challenge Sprint, they'll say there is something wrong with your phone and won't allow for contract termination without a penalty. Highly disreputable telecom provider.

Too much bad reception / dropped calls. Battery life short due to phone switching in and out of service. Can't wait for my contract to end. Service / phone works fine in other parts of the country.

Only works marginally by the window. I want to change phone and service, but having read the reviews for Cingular and Verizon (poor service and / or poor tech support and customer service) I may stay put until things improve...

No reception beyond a few feet from windows. Even within those few feet, most of the time the phone will ring but you can't carry on a conversation.

I get "no service" or no bars in or around my home with my new digital Motorola phone. I cannot send or receive calls. But my wife's ancient Kyocera candy bar phone will actually ring in our kitchen! Verizon tells me it's because her old phone sends out a more powerful signal than the new digital phones. Go figure. Verizon also tells me that they are *planning* to improve coverage with a new cell site in the area, but won't say when (I'll believe it when it happens).
