Cellular One

My calls are constantly dropped and people on the other end are always complaining about not being able to hear me. The reception is barely existent in one corner of the house, most of the time there is no service at all. This is affecting my ability to take work calls.

Verizon has very spotty coverage in and around the Stanford campus. In fact, my phone jumps to 3G data speeds occasionally because of poor coverage, while other times I cannot get a data connection at all. Areas along Sand Hill Rd.and Junipero Serra are one big coverage hole. Dropped calls are not uncommon. Coverage in other areas around the outside of campus seems fairly good at times, while other times it's terrible. Overall, I've been pretty dissatisfied with Verizon's coverage in and around Stanford, and I'm giving serious consideration to switching to a different carrier.

I get one to two bars with AT&T, and that is with two different handsets. Calls are sometimes dropped unless I stand near a window, and sometimes even then. A salesperson at the local AT&T said it might be because I am on the coverage boundaries for two different cell towers. Occasionally, I get no coverage at all, although that problem seems to have gone away as of late. The above is inside my apartment. Standing on the sidewalk at the corner of Webster and Channing, I usually get 3-4 bars. Using the same handsets as above, I get 4-5 bars with T-Mobile. No dropped calls ever and great data connection. Using Ookla Speedtest, the measured data transfer rate for T-Mobile was ten times greater than for AT&T. Latency was ten times greater for T-Mobile than for AT&T, however. The overall effect on the handsets was that the apparent data speed for T-Mobile was noticeably faster than for AT&T.

Prepaid T-Mobile phone purchased tonight, trying to find coverage at my home on Sneath Lane. The backside of Sneath has no coverage for T-Mobile. No bars. Have to walk down Sneath 1 / 3 of a mile to get coverage. We are facing Sweeny Ridge and a lot of carriers don't work well up here. Planning to return the prepaid phone (if possible).

Calls usually drop within a minute, and though I can hear fine, person on other end of line often complains of poor call quality. Usually will have anywhere from 2-4 bars, but bad service regardless. 3G / LTE goes in and out, but only very rarely can actually connect to internet / data.

I only get one bar at my office here. It's worse since the condos went up across the street.

Very limited reception, in most buildings in RWC there is at best 2 but mostly 1 bar. Many dropped calls and very very slow data connection

Verizon's service is horrible to non-existent at Stanford. Occasionally, I will get 1-2 bars of 3G, but most of the time it's 1X. And sometimes even when it's on 3G, the phone just sits there and spins when its trying to load anything from the internet. It's hard to believe it's 2015 when you can't even get service in one of the most populated areas of the country from the biggest carrier.
