Sprint

The NEXTEL reception on the Oracle HQ campus is excellent because NEXTEL originally installed what is now a "Sprint" tower at 100 Oracle Pkwy. more than 15 years ago. Note that Sprint is dismantling the NEXTEL (IDEN) network and it will be completely GONE by June of 2013. Finally, though they grabbed the old Nextel tower, the CDMA ("Sprint") performance in the same area is not nearly as good. NEXTEL works well, even deep inside the Oracle Pkwy. buildings. Sprint CDMA handsets get 2-3 bars of signal where an IDEN handset will have 5. I'll likely switch to Verizon if they don't fix the situation.

Cellular voice and data reception is unusable. Often get 2 bars but still cannot make or receive calls, send text messages, or connect for data. Have installed a microcell at home, but as soon as I walk down the block, no more cellular service. Are any other carriers better, or is this down to local NIMBYs?

Newark, CA near Dumbarton Bridge / CA-84 is a T-Mobile dead zone. There is zero coverage in this area or nearby,(Raley's, OSH, Safeway, Starbucks / CVS, Ranch-99) Cell signal is so poor in nearby areas that 10-feet indoors, you have no coverage. Strangely, only one mile away in Ardenwood, 3G data coverage is excellent.

No signal in backyard. Okay by street. Forget phone calls in the house!

Finding service at my job site is impossible. I have no serivce in are building and I have to go outside and move around to get service. If I stay in one spot the call drops. The only carrier that works in the building and outside is Verizon.

Cell reception ok to spotty in the street. Spotty to non-existent in homes or yards. you need to be in the middle of the street to get good enough reception to have a conversation

Many calls to AT&T have not resulted in any improvement to the service. I am looking into changing service providers.

Had Sprint for several years, reception was average, slow at times but usable and the best thing was the unlimited data for a flat fee. Normally I would give it a '3' out of 5 rating but the recent Sprint network problems in Palo Alto has been terrible and they have not been able to fix it since June 7, 2012 and today is June 12. Despite their apologies and giving credit for loss of usage, they still can't fix the problems. Tech Support promised to call back for updates but that never happened. Until they get their act together, I will have to rate it a '1' for poor reception.
