AT&T

Poor reception on CINGULAR towers; however, my phone allows selection of AT&T network (Cingular refers to RED and BLUE networks). AT&T (only) is 2 to 3 bars. So as long as I keep my phone 'locked' to AT&T towers, I've got service (I'm concerned about 'upgrading' phones to lesser-capable model--Cingular REQUIRES manufacturers to give company total control, removing user features enjoyed with European phones / networks).

No bars. Occasionally a phone call will get through. Have to walk 2 blocks sometimes. Neighbor believes is do to granite rock embedded in hill, generating cosmic rays.

I live in on Minna "alley" between 6th and 7th streets, and I can never get reception inside my apartment. Sometimes if I go outside it will jump up to full strenght, but I often need to walk out to the corner on 7th street just to get weak reception. I've had a few friends with Cingulair get reception inside my apartment, so I think it might be T-mobile.

Very erratic performance. Often phone will ring but reception is so poor, a conversation is impossible. Sometimes the phone does not even ring and the call does not appear in my mailbox for 1-2 days! On rare occasions, the phone will actually work well enough to allow a short conversation.

At my apartment on Dolores, between 15th and 16th, I generally get no bars. If I go outside of the building, sometimes I get one bar, two on very rare ocassions. Sometimes I have to go all the way up to Market before reception gets at all dependable.

I used to get Average to Below Average reception here, and sometimes lose network coverage altogether. Sometime this year that changed and now my signal is strong and I'm always on-network.

Got about 1.5 bars on the street but while I'm in my house. Got no reception at all. Have called TMobile many times but no luck.

Reception in the N. Berkeley hills is very bad. Despite reassurances from Verizon that things will get better, they haven't. Dropped calls, when you can connect at all, are a way of cell life here.

Pretty variable reception here - somewhat better since I upgraded from my LG VX4000, and they may have improved the signal. But dropped and missed calls are still not unusual. My next door neighbor also has Verizon and I often see them out on the sidewalk explaining that they don't get any reception in the house. Verizon has not been particuarly helpful here - often giving me BS explainations. I finally got someone who was honest and said that there are holes in their Berkeley coverage and there's nothing they can do until more antennas get approved (hard to do in NIMBY Berkeley) A year ago I moved from 2 blocks away (Marin and Cornell) - then I had flawless 5-bar reception all the time with Verizon. What a difference a few blocks can make!

Verizon provides excellent coverage from Nob Hill to the Financial District. No dropped calls, no interference. The only place I get a dropped call is on the lower deck of the eastern span of the Bay Bridge.
