Verizon

Verizon reception for this part of College Ave. is between poor and none.

Verizon's reception here is great, even within the house.

Reception below the ridgeline on the west side of Hwy. 13 was absolutely miserable in the past. I rarely could hang onto any call for more than a few minutes -- essentially unusable. Verizon was unresponsive to concerns about coverage. Reception quality seems to have improved significantly in the past couple of years. Now usable on a more consistent basis, but still fades out and drops sometimes.

Sprint has been steadily getting better in San Francisco, and I've had them for 4 years now. Still the occasional dropped call from my house in TI, otherwise no complaints at all.

Although usually 2-3 bars inside, 5 outside, reception always clear and no dropped calls. Have had this phone one year now, and have yet to find a bad reception area in SF, rest of CA, SC, NY or IL (my frequent travel cities); this is a tri-mode phone, and I have also had good luck with it in Hong Kong, KL, and Penang on GSM.

Although I'm in a hilly area, I have line of sight to nearby Sutro tower. Reception is very poor; two bars is the maximum signal strength I receive. Dropped and missed calls are the norm.

Get three bars in building and 4 outside-seem to get reasonable reception everywhere in a several block radius. Rarely is no reception a problem

This area has always been problematic for cell coverage until they installed a tower at the fire station (1 mile away). Now, I can get a signal both outside and inside my house. The voice quality isn't as good as landline, but at least I can make a call from inside my house. I don't know if the voice quality is due to the phone or the cell coverage. I previously had SprintPCS. With Sprint, it only worked in certain rooms of my house, not everywhere in the house. So, the Verizon signal seems to be an improvement. I also tried T-Mobile. Their signal only works outside the house, not inside.

In and around my home I get either no coverage or 1 bar. The phone can ring but then the call usually drops shortly after I answer it. On a good day I can carry a conversation. I get great coverage everywhere else in the Bay Area and usually throughout the U.S. I contacted the carrier and they said that the closest coverage is a mile away and there are no plans to bring coverage into Kensington.

As of 12 / 9 / 05 I'm ball and chained to Verizon for two years. Well, at least after the 15 day trial period. I switched over from T-Mobile whom I was with for two years. Their reception at home was average to below average at best. But very good everywhere else. I was even able to get reception below in the BART station of San Francisco (Montgomery / Embarcadero / Powell). I stuck it out assuming it would only get better at home. Well, after two years it never made it to my house. Calls constantly got interrupted with static breaks and drops with two different Motorola phones. With Verizon I only get 3 bars but the calls are crips, clear and don't drop even after an hour of straight talk! I'm very satisfied and I know their reception is reputable else where locally and nationwide. I believe it's just Alameda. It's hard to receive spectacular reception here. All my friends have different carriers and their reception isn't always the best.
