Sprint

I have been hearing nightmares about other carriers. I have had Srpint for 5 years. I have ugraded my phone on every contract renewal date. Hate to say this in front of those having problems, but I have never, repeat never had a dropped call in 5 years. Reception is always available regardless of my location. Sprint has been and continues to be a great experience. Good luck.

Had AT&T (Nokia 6820) with Average reception, but after the Cingular merger, reception dropped to Poor. Dropped calls every day, late text messages, often failed to receive calls. Verizon has been much better at home and around the Peninsula.

Very spotting off and on -- though it seems to pick up within a couple blocks. I have two Cingular phones, one for work and one personal.

Verizon on this end of the island is spotty at best. At home I might get reception in the house, but stepping outside doesn't even mean i've got something good enough to complete a call -- and it's not just my phone, several friends have similar problems when visiting.

I get no reception at my house... only if I put my phone on the window ceil. When I go to work at south shore..... 5 bars baby!

Verizon is easily the worst service provider I've ever used. I need to go outside and walk halfway down the block in order to reliably make a call. And that call will be dropped within five minutes. And most of the five minutes will be taken up with "can you hear me now" and "can you say that again". I have contacted Verizon, and they sent one of their tech people down here with some sort of signal detector, and they agree: it sucks. In fact, it sucks so badly they have let me out of my contract and I am changing (don't know to which provider yet, that's why I'm here) without the early termination fee. If you have any intention of using your phone in Berkeley, make sure you are NOT using Verizon. If you already have Verizon, call them and make them let you out of your contract.

T-mobile reception has gotten increasingly worse over the last few months. Reception has always been spotty at Southshore, but now the reception over the entire island has gotten worse.

I have no problems inside my 2nd story apartment and haven't had a dropped call yet. About a year ago I put a reception booser on my battery that has helped.

Had AT&T with Motorola V60... awesome reception... even had reception in underground Muni or on top of Mt. Tam. Since converting to Cingular and getting the V551 a few weeks ago, I have dropped calls EVERY day no matter where I am. The bars go up and down even when standing in the same place.

Gets between 1-3 bars. Almost all calls longer than 5min get dropped, indoors or outside. Generally poor reception in Berkeley and along I-80. Excellent in SF and south bay though. T-Mobile informed me a year ago new towers were going up in my area, but I've seen no change, and now that my contract's up I'll cancel.
