Sprint

5 / 5 at most outdoor places. At least 2 / 5 or 3 / 5 in most classrooms. With its CDMA technology, the sound quality is perfect.

Seems like I'm talking to a garbled misfit every other call... Any solutions?

Automatic setting won't work for TMOBILE - have only 1 bar. Set to manual and selected band 850 which is mostly for Cingular while phone tells me about T-Mobile connection. Spoke with CSR and they mentioned about personal receiver station hooked to each household, similar to home cordless base station. Seems like a repeater. Perhaps it is just a baloony. But I get better stable reception after switching to manual mode (2-3 bars)

Many dropped calls in house. Better on upper Solano Ave.

Cingular's merger with ATT did nothing good for our service. there are so many dead zones around Berkeley / Oakland that you can't really have a phone conversation while driving. In the Claremont Hotel area you can't even get a call. I get calls about half the time, messages show up on the screen and I've never got a ring. No customer service at night and on weekends? Unbelievable. The operators are rude and uncaring. I cannot stand this service and am thinking of going to TDMA with Verizon. Sound quality isn't as good, but at least I can talk on the phone without constant drops.

So far good reception in my area. I haven't experienced any call drops or poor reception. Although outside of my general area, I have experienced call drops or no reception despite the phone showing full bars. This only occurs when I'm on the outer fringes of the Bay Area (i.e. Gilroy, Half Moon Bay, Marin City, Fairfield). As long as I stay in the major areas in Bay Area, reception is great with full bars.

The phone is nearly unusable in my my own home... More often than not, I need to walk OUTSIDE to make or receive calls.

terrible reception in my house - multiple drop-outs up in the hills - would switch if I could but on a corporate plan

Sprint phones are practically unusable near my home and elsewhere in Montclair. My wife also has Samsung Sprint PCS phone that doesn't work. What is most frustrating is phones can occasionally get enough signal for a bar or less, and phones will actually ring, but you can't carry on conversation (no transmission / reception or disconnect). I'm thinking of moving to Verizon which I'm told (and can see on reviews) fares better in Montclair. Unfortunatly we still have several months in 2 year contract and I haven't found an acceptable substitute for Palm / phone device (i500) I currently have (Treo 600 / 650 on Verizon is logical choice but is much larger than i500).

I get decent (3 bars out of 4 or better) almost everywhere in this area, including 2 or 3 bars inside my house. Only a few places in Berkeley / Oakland area where the TDMA service is sketchy. Would like to upgrade to a nice new GSM phone, but I'm waiting till they build out the GSM network more.
